Weather for the rest of the week looks stunning, so who’s up for a decent length away ride on Sunday? Suggestions off the top of my head: Glen Tilit, Auchendrain, Pitlochry, the big Wanlock Head Gold Rush route (http://www.gmbc.org.uk/wanlock-head-gold-rush-route/), Gypsy Glen. Any other ideas? The weather is going to be too good not to!

Would definitely like to do an away ride on Sunday, don’t really mind where (something I haven’t done before would be nice).
Yes, I’m up for something…. never done gyspy glen, or Wanlockhead, or Auchindrain. Not fussed about heading north to tilt or pitlochry.
Another idea is Arran. First boat over at 9.45… then ride to lochranza and do the lovely coastal ride… would make a cracking day out too…..
[Grant: I know this doesn’t work for you but…] I’m mulling over Gypsy Glen and other natural Tweed rides after GT7 (jubilee weekend). Join me?
Yes, a Sunday blast would be perfect…… trails will be dry and fast.
Roads will be busy, guess the Loch Lomondside and the A9 will have the day trippers in force.
Haven’t done Auchindrain in 8 years, but heard there have been changes there, not done either Glen Tilt or Wanlockhead. Any other ideas……..
Quite fancy Gypsy Glen, Wanlock Head or Arran. Not that I know routes for any of them.
Either looking for a lift (with fuel money) or can take one passenger and bike from the West End.
A Gypsy Glen route: http://www.mtb-borders.com/gypsy_glen.html. Last time I did it, we rode from GT, and trimmed out Jenny’s Brae. I think that the route was from Andy Mac’s book.
Wanlock Head route: http://tinyurl.com/WanlockHeadGoldRush. It’s not at all technical once you leave Drumlanrig, but it is pretty huge.
Arran “classic” route: http://www.arranbikeclub.com/documents/ABCClassicroute_002.pdf. All the fire road climbing is a PITA, but the singletrack from Knockenkelly (12) is gorgeous, although it was *right* on the edge of a section being felled, so hopefully it hasn’t also now gone. I suspect that Sam had something else in mind.
the Arran Classic was ok when I was there a year ago and is a real cracker – you can add in the Cleuchlands Loop from Brodick, which is pretty techy as long as you keep the pace up and still make the 1645 ferry back……However, given the weather and the forecast I would suggest that the ferries will be totally mobbed, possibly even to the extent that they turn bikes away, as they occasionally do on hot summer weekend days….
Hi,
Yes, I was suggesting this ride on Arran.
http://www.arranbikeclub.com/documents/ABCLagganroute.pdf
Its a lovely ride, but does mean a road ride to Lochranza to start it but its only 12 miles…. No idea of the ferry situation…
I’m a little scared of Wanlockhead after your last ride report of this one, and it doens’t sound like too many bail outs….
I would also be keen to share transport and fuel costs.
Oh, where shall we go?! Too much choice….
Sam
Just to make things even more difficult, I quite fancy a trip down to Mabie to check out the new berms [and maybe (hah) find some of the off-piste stuff]. Or are natural trails order of the day?
How about Carn a’ Chlamain from Glen Tilt for a Sunday epic? http://www.dbethune.com/Mountains/GlenTilt/CarnaChlamain.html
Takes in Glen Tilt and I quote “a pleasant 5 downhill miles on the bikes (no punctures this time!) back to the car at Old Bridge of Tilt.”
It doesn’t look too technical and 5 downhill miles sounds like fun!
Erm, I think that that’s talking about cycling to the foot of the munro, walking up, then cycling back out. http://corstorphinehill.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=180 talks of a push to the top, and a tight, techy descent over a 3000ft drop (sounds as though they do it the other way). Let me know how it goes ;~)
Grant, as much as I love Mabie, I think its not a great drive vs ride ratio for the day. 2.5 hours to get, with a 2hour ride, then drive back home….
I’d like to suggest we do Gypsy Glen. It a new one for most of us, not too far to spend sitting in the car, therefore more time to spend in the lovely sunshine, and no issus with ferries….plus, I’m guessing it has bail-out options, for me just in case i want to head to a beer garden in Peebles early!?!
What does everyone think?
I’d quite like to have this decided sooner than later if we can, so I can make arrangments around it..
Sam
Good point Sam, I was going to do a couple of laps but I suppose most people wouldn’t want to.
I’d love to do Gypsy Glen, only potential problem is the event on at Glentress, is it going to make parking etc too much faff?
Can start the ride from Innerleithen, or I hear rumours of a FC car park in Cardrona Forest.
Is this the decision then? Gypsy Glen?
I think so. What time are we meeting and where? Inners?
Anyone up for car share?
Looks as though a plan is coagulating. Meet at Innerleithen, aim to ride 10am? Potential for post-ride munchies in the Traquair Hotel, which we visited after the Minchmoor ride (I can recommend the burgers).
However, I will need a lift, in return for money for fuel.
So who’s in?
If you can navigate to Inners (I’ve never been), I’ll give you a lift.
Count me in for Gypsy Glen, 10am at Innerleithen it is then!!!
I don’t know at this stage if I have a space free. I’ll post up if I do.
Right, I’ll see you there. Going to head over today and visit pals in that direction….
Hi, I’m going. Can I squeeze in with someone or will take van and have space for 2 more? Cheers

Ps. I’m southside.
Sorry, I have to bail. I have a handful of things I didn’t manage to finish today.
Enjoy the ride girls & boys.
