Fort William Weekend: Change in Plan

Hi.  I couldn’t get accommodation in Fort William so the weekend away on 1/2 Aug is now in the Cairngorms.  The plan now looks a bit like this:

  • Friday afternoon: Laggan Wolftrax: red/black trails
  • Saturday: Possibly Glenlivet and then local Aviemore trails (natural, techy stuff)
  • Sunday: TBC – back to Laggan (enduro trails) or big natural loop in the Pitlochry area

The Friday & Saturday will be with some of my work colleagues and we’ve been offered exclusive use of the hostel in Glen Feshie on the Friday night.  At the moment we have about 7 spaces for the Friday night and plenty of space on the Saturday (non-exclusive use).  If you’re interested in one of these spaces please let me know ASAP.  The cost would be about £25 per night.

Summer BBQ Local Bike Ride

So, the summer BBQ looms and if you fancy working up an appetite beforehand then there’s the option of a local ride, leaving from the club hall at 3:30pm and aiming to return about 6pm.

The pace will need to suit everyone so the focus will be on the social aspect of the ride.  If there are folks that want to stick in some techy or fast options I’m sure we can accommodate that.  Given the recent heavy rain, and more rain forecast tonight, I’m considering the Dumgoyne Loop with some options on the way back through Mugdock.  The forecast for the afternoon itself is looking pretty good…… just now.  😉

Please post up or text/email me if you’re coming along for the ride.

keep your fingers crossed!

Fort William Weekend: 1st/2nd Aug

I’ll be up in Fort William with some friends from work.  We’ll be riding at the Nevis Range on the Saturday.  There’s a variety of trails there but my plans are to do an uplift day riding the Giant Red DH trail and maybe some of the enduro trails.  After an overnight stop in Fort William I’ll be heading home via a loop of the Devil’s Staircase & Ciaran Path from Altnafeadh in Glen Coe.

Saturday ride – Nevis Range

Sunday ride – Devil’s Staircase/Ciaran Path

If you’re interested in either of the day rides then let me know by posting up here so I know to expect you.  If you’re interested in the overnight stay in Fort William then let me know and I’ll see what I can arrange in a hostel.  Once I’ve made the booking for anyone who expresses an interest it’ll be up to any late joiners to sort out their own accommodation.  If there’s no hostels available then there’s always camping.

10 Under: 2015

What a great weekend!  Firstly a big thank you to Wojtek from Dales for his support at the weekend – mechanical tweaks and support for our solo riders.  Top effort!

After a bit of a grey start the days started to heat up and the laps started to tick by. We had solo teams (Robin, Simon Haslam, Eilidh & Tom), Pairs (Al & Stuart and Barry & Rich and Angus & Gary) and trios (Ryz, Mario & Me and Al Derrick, Graeme & David and John Bennie, Fran & Magda).  Pete, Ross & Del were also up with us as their own team.

Sadly, Robin’s puncture-fest on lap 2 saw him pull out of 10 Under.  There were a few crashes and a few more punctures but for the most part the day flew past.  Well done to Eilidh for coming 4th in the solo female category and to TomW for getting in 9 laps.  Gary and Angus for blasting out 10 laps, Pete/Ross & Del for getting 4th in their category and Barry & Simon for singlespeed madness!

Club Social: Curry & Quiz Night (club hall)

The Milngavie & Bearsden Sports Club (the club hall we use on mid-week rides) are hosting a curry and quiz night on Friday 26th June, 7pm onwards.  As we’re an active club at MBSC they’ve invited GMBC to join in.

The curry is being catered by Mother India and the cost includes the curry and a free drink (e.g a pint) for £20.  It starts with drinks at 7pm, then food at 8pm and the quiz will probably finish around 10pm.  The curry will be chicken, lamb, veggie options and sides.

Each table seats 8 people and they’d like GMBC to take one table at least.  If you’re interested then please post up but we’ll need someone to organise the GMBC table with the sports club (it’s Fiona Drummond from MBSC who’s organising it so I can put you in touch with her).

They may also be able to sort out showers so if you want to do a local ride before the curry then they’ll have somewhere to get cleaned up before the meal.
