Selkirk Mountain Bike Marathon

SMM_logoI’ve put this event in the calendar (10th May) as I reckon it’s one of the best there is in Scotland.  It’s well organised (by the same people who do the Craggy Island Tri) and with it’s choice of distances it’s suitable for novices & experienced riders alike.  The riding in the area is fantastic, the food stops were well stocked, the whole event is relaxed and friendly and has great camping facilities.  The main event is on the Saturday with a local, chilled out ride on the Sunday with the organisers.  It looks like there may also be a round of SMBO planned for the Sunday if you have the energy!

I’m signed up (doing the 50km this year) and will be going for the whole weekend.  Here’s more info.  Anyone else up for this?

Aberfoyle Ride (Sat. 4th Jan)

Hi.  I’m planning on heading up to Aberfoyle for an easy ride, I’m not planning anything difficult or fast so it would suit anyone just wanting to get out and stretch their legs.  I expect the ride to be cross-bike friendly if that’s your thang.  Post up here or on the event entry if you’re interested.  Details here:

GMBC Christmas Social

Hi Folks.  Right then, who fancies a drink?  ‘Tis the season etc.  What could be better than to meet up with a bunch of like-minded folks and talk nonsense over a beer/cider/wine/whisky (or all of the above).  Like last year, we’ll dispense with the hassle of a meal and go straight to the business of liquid refreshments.  Here’s the plan:

  • When: Saturday 14th Dec, 7:30pm
  • Where:  Curlers Rest pub (downstairs), on Byres Road, beside Hillhead underground station
  • Who: anyone; old club members, new members, ex-members, prospective members.  All welcome.

Please post up if you’re able to make it along.  Cheers!

Cyclists vs Harriers Event

We had this sent to us.  A bit different to the usual event so thought I’d post it up in case anyone was interested.  It’s a short distance, but it’s cheap and could be combined with some riding elsewhere in the area to make a day of it.  You could even enter it as a runner!?

A Big Thank You!

A message from my family:
“Mike & Liz Anderton would like to thank the members of GMBC and Walkers Cycling who helped Graham when he became ill during the recent Lakes weekend. John and Robin were invaluable in getting him to hospital and getting his car back to Glasgow and Eilidh’s carrot cake was the best prescription! Thanks to all the club members who have been in touch by phone, text, email and visits for helping to keep his spirits up, also being helped in no small measure by the occasional piece of Dawn’s chocolate brownie!”
