Wheelbuilding

I’ve been wanting to learn how to build wheels for years, eying up Edinburgh Bike Co-op’s course and reading various bits and pieces. While I can replace spokes and true battered hoops, putting one together from scratch seemed a black art. Earlier this year, I bought a copy of The Professional Guide to Wheel Building, by Roger Musson of Wheelpro. Reading it left me thinking can it really be that easy, and scouting about for parts to build a spare set of wheels for the cross bike. Continue reading

Cut-price bleed kits

These guys have just been in touch with me: http://www.epicbleedsolutions.com/. They do their own Avid bleed kits for £13, I’ve seen genuine Avid kits for £40 now, and if your bike is cursed with Avid brakes, you need a bleed kit ;~) Shimano bleed kit (with syringe, which even Shimano don’t supply) for £5, complete with 50ml of Shimano mineral oil.

Also worth taking a look at their resource section where you will find instructions and videos for bleeding many different makes and model of brakes.

And just in time for Christmas!

For sale

John has asked me to pass on the following:

Stuff for sale, don’t want to put it on ebay just yet. Rather someone from the club got a chance first.

Genesis Altitude titanium frame 19″ brand new, decided to go another direction with the build so have to sell the frame on, offers of £750.

Specialized Stumpjumper Pro FSR 19″ 2007 but looks like new, only ridden occasional trail centre visits, £2000 new, would take offers around £1000.

Anyone needs specs or test ride then email me on millerDOTjohn401ATgmailDOTcom.

AGM, Wednesday 30 November

As you’re hopefully all aware, the AGM is scheduled for Wednesday 30 November, 7:45pm at the hall.  The constitution (available here) states that “Items for inclusion on the Agenda of any General Meeting shall reach the Secretary at least fourteen days before the date of the meeting.” If there is anything that you would like to propose for inclusion, please mail me directly, or use info@gmbc.org.uk. The agenda will be published a week before the meeting.

As usual, all are welcome to attend, but only current members are eligible to vote on any matters. This is your chance to voice your opinions and shape your club, so please make the effort to come along.

Several members of the current committee are intending to step down, so we will need some willing mugsvolunteers to help run the club for the next year. If that is something that you are interested in, it’s a great way to put something back into the club, and doesn’t take that much time, so please get in touch and we can tell you more.
