Prost-8 Grampians – some club members fundraising for Prostate Cancer

Some of you may know that I, along with a group of friends, including our own Pete Morgan, Chris Johnstone and Sanny, are doing a bike ride challenge next month, and are raising money for Prostate Cancer UK along the way.

Please have a look at the attached JustGiving link; any contributions will be hugely gratefully received for this very important cause, which is personally very close to me.

Please feel free to pass onto others.

Trail Maintenance: 16th April Session

This coming weekend’s planned session will be based at Milngavie Golf Club (instead of Khyber field as previously advertised).

We’ll be working to repair the surface of the path that runs beside the golf club car park.  It’s part of the Clyde Coastal Path and the surface has become rutted with water running off the car park.  The drainage issue has been resolved and East Dunbartonshire council have already supplied the gravel surfacing.  We’ll be needing to move the gravel onto the path and compact the surface.  Hope to see you there for another great trail maintenance session.

Details of the session including a link to sign up for volunteering for 16/4 session can be found here:

http://www.gmbc.org.uk/event/path-maintenance-5/

NB: we’ll need to put one final session into the calendar to do the work up at Khyber field but I’ll advise a date for that once the park ranger has confirmed her availability.

Path Maintenance: 09-Apr

Hi.  As we didn’t get enough volunteers for 02-Apr we’re rescheduling to Saturday 09-Apr.  We need about 8 people to wheelbarrow and shovel gravel onto a worn path beside the golf club car park down towards the Allander.  It’s part of the Clyde Coastal Path so we’re doing some repairs which will benefit the wider community as well as fixing up a path we often use.

If you’re free to help out then please email info[AT]gmbc[DOT]org[DOT]uk

Additional Path Maintenance Session Needed

East Dunbartonshire Council have provided some gravel to Milngavie Golf Course which is for the section of Clyde Coastal Path beside the golf club and leading to their car park.  This piece of trail is the rutted one just down from the golf club where the railway sleeper bridge has recently been replaced.  We’re looking for volunteers to shovel and compact the gravel onto the path.

Ideally it’ll be sometime after Easter but before the next session (16-Apr).  We’re thinking 02-Apr.  Are you free to help out that day or can you suggest an alternative date that you are free to help?  6-8 people is probably enough.  To volunteer either post up here or email info[AT]gmbc[DOT]org[DOT]uk

Intro Ride 23-March

Hi.  As myself and Ryszard can’t make this week’s Intro ride (Wednesday 7pm) then, unless someone else wants to step up to host it, assume it’s cancelled for this week and the next Intro ride will be Wed. 31-March.

Snake Pass Improvements

A big thank you to Angus, Andrew, Ross B, Chris and Pete & sons and the Park Rangers for working on the lower section of Snake Pass/Snakey to fix the ruts and drainage problems.  From a test ride down it yesterday it felt solid and smooth.  Hopefully the work we’ve done will keep water off the path and any water that makes it on to the path will be diverted off.

The next maintenance session is planned for Sat. 16-April and will be up in the Khyber area of the park.

Here’s a few photos from Saturday’s effort for you to enjoy:

Trail Updates

Hi.  Just a few things to be aware of on the local trails just now….

  • Snakey is still fairly rutted (we’re working on it this weekend if you want to come and give us a hand!)
  • it’s frog season so watch out for them on the trails
  • you might find bits of the reservoirs/Voodoo taped off with police tape.  There was some sort of police incident nearby last night (human remains found I’m told).

Curry & Quiz Night – 19-March

Milngavie & Bearsden Sports Club are hosting their sort of regular curry & quiz night a week on Saturday (19th March).  By all accounts it’s a good night out with some great curry from Mother India.

This time around the Curry & Quiz night will be on after the Scotland/Ireland 6 Nations game has finished, maybe from 7pm onwards.  If there’s folks interested then let’s get a table sorted.  NB: it’s the same day as the path maintenance so what better way to enhance that warm fuzzy feeling from volunteering to help fix paths by enjoying a tasty curry and a few pints??

Event details posted here:

Trail Maintenance: This Saturday (27-Feb)

The next trail maintenance session is planned for this coming Saturday.

Here’s some comments from the park ranger on our efforts at previous session

The work you all did on the WHW is brilliant.   The new joined up ditch is running really well and I’ve had several very positive comments on the improved path surface so thank you all very much.

Thanks to the following folks for signing up for this Saturday: Pete, Ryszard, Jeremy, IainC, TonyR, Ian Godber, Julie & Bosco.  We could use a couple more people so if you’re free, even for a few hours then pop your name down on the form and join in.

At the moment, the plan for Saturday is to do some work on Riverside.  I’ll email around folks who have signed up to confirm the details.  Hope to see you there.
