Forestry commission kilpatrick hills plans

Gavin T passed this on to me for input ,looks like the forestry commission have  most trails covered ,one which could be done is the south westerly from duncolm to greenside reservoir  .but all in all if these improvements are completed it will be amasing as the down hill runs which have been cut by the local young team are gnarly  and if any one has riding them will no ,I have  spent a lot of time  up there and the are sweet decents and tough ascents ,all in all another great wee addition to the greater glasgow mtb scene.

Volunteers wanted for Hoy Velodrome – have fun, watch fast cyclists, feel smug.

Ex member David Hicks is looking for volunteers to help out at the Revolution Track Series at the Hoy velodrome next Sat.

It’s a sold out event so volunteering is the only way to see top teams and riders like Rapha Connor Sharp and Sky Pro Cycling. All volunteers will get a great view of the racing.

David needs responses by 5pm today! Email him: david(underscore)hicks(at)btinternet(dot)com

Topper Wed night ride

…..And so it was that four hardy souls braved the elements (ok, it was a touch chilly) and headed out into the inky darkness of Mugdock. Pistol Pete, Tom “trainer wheels” Downie, Genius McConcept and I headed out via Dougalston on some fairly hard frozen trails. Carefully avoiding the dumpling in a BMW in Virgin Active who appeared keen to reverse into us, we opted for a fast blast round the trails above the reservoir before heading across to the rocky rooty and out to Carbeth. As we headed out towards Craigallion, the snow started to appear on the trails and made for terrific riding – grippy and fast. Pete took us through Carbeth for a play on what’s left of the new trails before taking us down a cracking singletrack descent to the Carbeth Inn that I’d not ridden before. Genius opted for the early bath while the three amigos headed back along the Westie and in via the riverbank and golf club trails. Despite the disadvantage of riding on 26er wheels ( trainer wheels / kiddies bike / delete as appropriate), Tom commented that it was one of the nicest evening rides he’d done in a while with zero faff and a reasonable pace to ensure that no one got cold.

All in, it was a really nice night to be out with the trails in near perfect condition. So where was everyone else?

Cathkin Braes: any interest in races?

Glasgow-based racer Rab Wardell is trying to gauge interest in a mountain bike race series at Cathikin Braes. His original post was on Facebook, but I’ve copied it below. Feel free to state your interest or discuss here, and I’ll pass it on to Rab.

I want to gauge interest in a local mountain bike racing series at Cathkin Braes next summer, running on Wednesday evenings. Would local riders be interested in events or volunteering? I’m thinking of short course cross country and maybe a mini downhill and enduro? Who’s interested?

Personally, I’d be interested in some fairly casual XC or Enduro races.
