With the dry weather now’s a chance to get a ride in at Drumlanrig so the tree roots are a little bit less intimidating. The route is generally “red” but has black sections. I’m not sure what the cafe situation is no that it’s out of season so maybe take some food. The route isn’t too long distance/time-wise, including faff & stops, maybe 2-2.5 hours.
If you’ve not ridden at Drumlanrig before then it’ll feel a lot more natural, rooty and flowy than you’re used to if you normally ride 7 Stanes trails. Definitely worth coming along!

Anyone fancy some (dry) rooty trails at Drumlanrig on Sunday? I’ll be joined there by Mr. Hebb – don’t let that put you off, the trails really are very good 😉 It’s just over an hour from Glasgow. Expect natural feeling, twisty trails and lots of roots.

Alison & I are planning to ride Drumlanrig on Saturday 15th Nov (unless the weather is dire). Meeting at 10am – Prompt – ready to ride, from the main car park. We need to be back on the road at 3pm as heading on down to the Lakes. Nothing too fast/techy as been loaded with the flu (at least that is my excuse). Not planning a café stop either. Please let us know if you are interested.
This magnificent 17th century castle is one of Scotland finest stately homes. Drumlanrig Castle has in recent years been host to a stage of the Tour of Britain, British National and numerous Scottish cross country races. This spectacular venue not only provides a touch of upper class camping in the castle grounds but the eighty thousand acre Queensberry estate, Ae forest and the way marked trails within the grounds offers enough scope for the 100+ km monster marathon.

It seems as though the Merrida/CRC Marathon series has been resuscitated as ‘MTB Marathon Series 2014’ and they’ve got a round at Drumlanrig.
Distances of 25-100km, more info here: http://www.mtb-marathon.co.uk/events/3rd-august-2014-drumlanrig-castle-scottish-borders.html
Even better, the picture on the website shows sun, so that’s legally binding I imagine.
Anyone else fancy it?
I’m no meteorologist so I’ll decribe the recent weather as “kinda meh” – not sunny, not cold, not wet – just meh. In search of dry trails we’ve done a few trips to GT in recent weeks and Mabie (originally on the calendar) is having some forestry work done so Drumlanrig seemed like a good choice to escape the local trails and get a trail centre fix yet still enjoy some natural feeling (and hopefully dry) trails.
