Tuesday Ride 26th April

Hi All
Last Tuesday there was some talk about this Tuesday’s (26th April) ride being a pub ride if the weather was OK.  I know it is a bit short notice but I am only now remembering.  Sorry.
The weather does look good so we can discuss the route,as usual, before starting tomorrow.  If it is going to be the pub ride it will be the Carbeth then the Blane valley Inn.  Just in case this is the consensus, bring some refreshment vouchers.  If not the pub run then there are plenty other options so see you tomorrow.

Easter Sunday ride

Hi all,

Planning on doing a ride out to the Knockie Buckle, out off road, maybe via Lennox forrest, do the loop and back via Mugdock park tomorrow.  Probably a bit longer than the average morning spin, but will be back by early/mid afternoon depending on who comes along and the length of any cafe stops.  The weather forecast is good but if it turns out to be wetter than forecast I’m sure my route plans will change accordingly!

For those that don’t know the Knockie Buckle is very steep on the way up, with the odd techie bit on the way back down (again pretty steep whichever way down you choose)

I’ll swing by the car park at 10am, so be there if you fancy it.

Dig out the lycra… Thursday road ride?

I am now being lazy and plan to do another southside road ride, truth is I know for sure I cannot make it to milngavie for 6.30, in fact I will be cutting it fine to be home by then! If anyone else fancies another new route out of the southernmost fringes of our great city into the wilds of renfrewshire, lanarkshire or even north ayrshire then I should be there. I am happy to plan a wee route or just follow to peloton 🙂

I may be tight for 6.30 so if a slightly later start was on the cards I wouldn’t say no… work is a little hectic this week.

Royal Wedding Ride – Fri 29th – Arran big day out ride ?

I am thinking about this as an alternative to watching the telly all day -)

A group of us from work did this late summer last year.  Quite a bit of riding, some nice techy stuff (if you can ride all of Mugdock you can ride this), and a biggish day.  We went over on the 0950 ferry and just made the 1640 return.  If there is reasonable interest I am ken to do it and having been round before can just about remember the way (and teh maps are pretty good so as long as we have a few printouts..)

Here’s the ferry timetable :  (haven’t checked that there isn’t a reduced timetable due Public Holiday, but will do)

Last time we met at Ardrossan, where we left the cars and went on the 094o and returned 1640, which was just about enough time….. if we are delayed, we can get the later one back.

route wise, last time, we started out from the ferry terminal and did a variation of this, to marker point 6 :

and then tied into the classic route, from marker 3 (which is the same as 6 on the other route) :

a cracking day out indeed.  Post up if you fancy it and we can see what the interest level is.

Scottish Bike Show at SECC Sat 16th/Sun 17th April

Hello Peeps,

I know this is very short notice, but we have managed to secure a spot on the Alpine Stand at this weekends first Scottish Bike Show.

We are looking for a handfull of fellow club members to volunteer some of their time (4hrs approx) by helping out on the stand.

The aim is to promote the club and it’s fantastic benefits, increase the number of club members, inform visitors that all other clubs are inferior and to promote our new ‘Beginner Rides’ starting Wednesday 4th of May (volunteers needed for that too!)

We’ll have flyers available to hand out and posters up on the stand to promote this. It’d be great if the volunteers could also wear any GMBC apparel to emphasize this.

It’ll be a free entry to the volunteers, I’m pretty sure it’s £7.50 per person, if folk just want to attend. From the committee members, we’re able to cover the Saturday morning slot, I’ll probably be around for most of the day too. We are restricted to 2 passes, and my thoughts were to have 2 folk in the morning slot and 2 in the afternoon, allowing us a continued presence and it would only require part of your day.

For the folk that wish to attend, please remember that the car park will charge around £4 (the committee will reimburse this to volunteers).  Alpine have told us that if you wish to cycle in, there will be space to store your bikes at the rear of the stand.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, or even popping along to say hello whilst you maybe visiting. If you are free to assist, please let me know which day and what time.

Thank you very much
