Culra Bothy Weekend 8-10th April

Bothy

Hi All,

This is a gentle reminder for the bothy trip next weekend, in case you missed it……….

It is out the Phil McKane book (see Bothy file link above) which is basically 2 loops; Ben Alder 30km and Ardverikie 35km from the bothy. There is a 10km ride in and out of Dalwhinnie about1.5hrs should do it with big pack and no punctures. The options are: to go in on Friday early evening remembering that the sunset will be around 8pm; or in on Saturday, dropping your gear and doing a loop or opening a bottle.

Here is a link to the Culra Bothy: http://www.claviantica.com/culra/index.html for more information it accommodates up to 22 in 3 rooms

In terms of gear:

  1. Individual gear
    1. Sleeping bag
    2. Thermarest or similar
    3. Torch
    4. Food plates & utensils
    5. Water/chlorine tablets
    6. Dry/change of clothes
    7. Bottle of your choice
    8. Loo paper
    9. Bags to carry rubbish out
  1. Shared Gear around group
    1. Stove and fuel
    2. Matches and candles
    3. Dry firewood or coal
    4. Firelighters
    5. Pans/kettle
    6. Washing up stuff
    7. Bike spares/tools
    8. Route map

So packs will be bigger than usual. We can sort out the shared gear when numbers are known. So far we have: Rob Rankin, Al(no helmet)  myself and a few nibblers

I would suggest that we have a plan B in case the weather is piss poor.

Please let me know if you are interested or got any suggestions…………..

Cheers Chris

Local blast Saturday (2/4/11)

Sunday is Mother’s Day, so it’s probably not a good idea for me to ride then ;-). Does anyone fancy a local ride (or 4-5 hour all-in ride somewhere else) on Saturday instead?

Currently plan is for moderate pace (I don’t go much faster) but with few stops. Setting off from the hall carpark at 9.

Open to suggestions for changes.

Kilsyth Hills Ride

Forecast for Sunday is 10*C, dry and no wind, so good day to get out on the bike and up some hills.Remember the clocks change Sat/Sun so don’t turn up wondering why you’re on your own and if you’re staying out for the full ride, there are no shops for food/drink en-route so bring what you need with you.The views can be fantastic so don’t forget your camera and i’ll be there at 9.30am. Cheers for now.

Local ride Sunday (27/3/11)

Three ride alternatives on one day? Preposterous.

I’ve got other commitments early on Sunday afternoon so can’t make either of the other rides. That means I’m planning to do a local ride, setting off from the Hall car park at the usual time (9am). All company welcome (lets make the most of this week of Summer), let me know if you’re coming so I don’t set off too early.
Cheers,
Grant

2. Kilsyth Hills Ride – ** NEW ROUTE **, meet at Colzium House car park, 9:30am
“3.5 – 5hr loop of Kilsyth,Croy(Barrhill Roman Fort),Twechar then steep climb to Birkenburn Reservoir, mainly on farm track but with singletrack, hikey bike in parts and on the Carron valley side it is fire rd and takes in the Carron Valley cycle track before coming back over the hills via fire rd, hikey bike and singletrack. There’s some serious hill climb involved but not too technical and if we take up the option of Tomtain Cairn, the views are spectacular and the descent is lottsa fun”

Upcoming Ride:
Sat/Sun April 9/10th – Bothy Weekend, Central Highlands – see email from Chris Johnstone
This is out the Phil McKane book which is basically 2 loops; Ben Alder 30km and Ardverikie 35km from the bothy.
