GMBC Yoga Classes

he GMBC yoga classes are due to start next week and run on the following four Wednesday nights at 8pm in the club hall: 5th Oct, 19th Oct, 16th Nov and 14th Dec. The classes will last for 90min so we should be able to get the kettle on for any nightriders. The instructor (Dianne McNicoll) will be paid a flat rate of £30 for the class irrespective of how many turn up, so a total of £120 (4 x £30). I have received confirmed interest from the following 11 people (Mark Forrest, Pete Morgan, Barry Mears, Grant Hill, Simon Haslam, Ross Black, Iain Clow, Euan Boyd, Phil Draper, Alison & Me). If I have missed anyone or if you are now keen then please get in touch asap. My plan is to collect £10.90 (£120/11 people) from each of the people listed above when I see you next. Ideally, next Wednesday night, over the cyclocross weekend or at the AGM. If you are listed above then you have already made a commitment to come along and pay.

If anyone else turns up for a class then I collect £3 from them and re-invest in GMBC biscuits.

Please note, I have had to reduce the number of nights originally planned due to the firework night and club AGM.

Ride tonight?

Weather looks ace – clear skies and warm so who is up for heading out at 7.45?

I’ll be doing the biscuit run after as usual. I’m guessing all the custard creams will have disappeared again. It’s funny but there’s usually at least half a packet left at the end of a Wednesday night but come the following Wednesday, when I open up, they’re all gone!!!!!!!

things you see on the way home…

…Just cruising along my regular commute from Hamilton to Crookston, enjoying this fine weather, when passing Atlantic Quay who do I see just chilling out with his mates and doing some cool riding? it’s none other than Danny MacAskill, what a legend! It’s not every night you see an MTB hero in a Red Bull helmet just out riding in the town.

Put a smile on my face 🙂

PS. the bike day at riverside was amazing…anyone jump into the airbag? I wanted to do it but the wife was not too keen!

Tour de Ben Nevis

‘taking mountain biking back to the mountains’

82km, around Ben Nevis, almost entirely off-road, with special timed sections involving crazy descents, hill climbs and an evil soul-destroying push up the biggest, longest hill in the world.

I absolutely loved the sound of the race format and also the idea of getting out into the wild, remote country at the other side of the Ben.  And I couldn’t let the year go by without doing at least one ‘no fuss’ event. Continue reading

Devil’s Staircase & Ciaran Path – this Sunday

Hi folks,

Devil’s Staircase & Ciaran path

Looks like 25km but a big day out, if you have armour bring it. This is a link to sunday’s ride start at Devil’s staircase 10am (ready to ride), along to Blackwater reservoir, down to Kinlochleven for food stop and back up to the devil’s staircase. We will leave the bigger route coming out of Kinlochleven for another time. Can we share lifts, I have space for 3?

Single Speed UK Champs

The UK Single Speed mtb championships were held at Pippingford Park, East Sussex on Saturday 17th September. Setting off from Glasgow later than intended on the Friday afternoon, I arrived at the venue just before 11pm and, thankfully was able to pitch the tent in the dry.
The Saturday morning started with convivial weather but an hour before the race started the heavens opened and we were treated to twenty minutes of the torrential stuff. As a direct consequence the organisers took the decision to shorten the race from four to three laps and we were treated to a race briefing urging caution on the course. Continue reading

Chamonix to Zermatt – Ride Report

After loading our bikes and bags on to the Ride the Alps van at Geneva Airport, Al Yuille and myself quickly became acquainted with the rest of the bunch during the drive to Argentiere – Chamonix. After putting the bikes together, our guide Jamie Carr gave us the trip briefing and things were looking good. Jamie is ex-team GB, was one of the first to ride mountain bikes in the Himalayas and has a wealth of knowledge for routes in the Alps. This would be my fourth trip with him and something that I had been looking forward to for a few years. The almost perfect weather forecast seemed almost too good to be true. Continue reading
