Local ride Teusday 17/5/11

Hi All
Just checked Email (Not WordPress yet) and noticed no ride report for Tuesday 17th may.
Weather was dull, heavy showers and strong winds.
Riders: in the region of 17. Can’t remember exact amount. (Please correct me if I’m wrong.)
This was more a demolition derby than a usual pleasant Tuesday night bike ride. Headed to Voodoo Hill Via Esporta.
Rode all the tracks in the area. First casualty. Buckled front wheel from a spill on Claggy Johns. One down.
At the top of Snakey pass a big discussion took place, as the weather worsened, which resulted in some heading back due to “nae grip tyres” and unfamiliar equipment. Three more down.
On the top moor, exposed to all the wind and rain, a rear tyre puncture. Got going again five minutes later, still on top moor exposed to all the wind and rain, a broken hanger. Big respect to Tim, and all, who managed to get bikes up and running again.
Forty minutes on top moor freezing and wet, light getting worse, we decided to call it a night. There followed a nice pleasant ride home without further incident.

Muddy Wednesday – where has summer gone ??

It was more like an Autumn night out there tonight – 8 degrees, muddy, windy, a few heavy showers pushing through.  The 745 ride saw 5 of us heading out for a couple of hours – great blast, no offs or mechanicals to speak of, so covered a lot of ground – trails still riding pretty well but rocky rooty and riverside well slippy !!

Hard to believe we were riding in T-shirts on dusty trails a few weeks ago – roll on summer !

Looking for wheel(s)

Am looking for a reasonably good quality, 2nd hand, v-brake compatible back wheel for the spare/guest hard tail bike I am soon going to build back up. Would be into taking a pair of such wheels if that’s what you have hanging in your garage looking for a new home……..

Cheers Sunil

Wanted – used MTB for friend (budget £300)

My mate Mark is due back from Brazil in July and is looking to buy a basic but descent used MTB, rather than hiring a bike everytime he is back. Budget is about £300 and for that the bike must be simple but good condition with no imminent repairs! size 17-18 inch, hardtail, v-brakes preferred, basic – but not too basic (i.e. entry level rockshok) fork. His old bike was a mid-range Trek which he liked, not fussed about make though – so if anyone knows somebody looking to offload something reasonable, let me know – ideally with a pic that I can email to him.

Cheers, Stephen

661 Enduro at Ae

Just completed the first in a series of Enduro events held throughout the UK. The first stage was at a VERY wet Ae and saw the seeding on the slippy downhill stage on the Saturday. Most folks entered on a 5/6″ travel bike although I saw some on 8″ downhill bikes, xc and even a single speed jump bike.

I had various mishaps at every stage – Stage 1 – missed my start by 4 minutes as was sheltering form the rain. Stage 2 – punctured and rode section with a flat rear. Stage 3 – adjustable seat post jammed 10 seconds before the start. Stage 5 – seat snapped off the rails and had to ride slippy forrest section with the rails digging into inner thigh.

All that said it was great fun and I came around 85th overall. Looking forward to Inners already…..

Fynefest: Loch Fyne Beer, Food & Music Festival

Hi all,

I have mentioned this to a handful of members who all seemed quite keen.

http://www.fynefest.com/index.html

It’s the 2nd weekend of June, (Sat 11th & Sun 12th).  Tickets are only £8 and £10.50 for the camping ticket – that’s per tent and for the weekend.

I’m heading up early on the Saturday with a friend, we’re taking the bikes as I’ve been told there are some crakin’ rides around that area.  Also, can someone please give me some ride info on Auchindrain.

I hope to see more of you there, it could be a nice club weekend away…..Bevvy and Biking!

Thursday road ride – 12 May

Anybody planning to ride tomorrow? Weather depending should be up for either the regular local ride, or the (cough) unofficial southside ride 🙂

either way – will probably go straight from work in hamilton via train to milngavie or back to crookston for 6.30 hopefully. Will check back website to see what plans are – if any?… remember 10 under the ben is just over a week away, not so secret training needs to be stepped up!
