Pitlochry – Farragon Loop

pitlochry Farragon

This is a great 40km 4-5hr route about 90mins away from Glasgow. Navigation is easy, it is all weather, great scenery and Escape Route Bikes. Going clockwise, it begins with a fire road climb  out of Pitlochry, followed by a great single track descent all the way down into Strathtay. There is then a few kms of quiet C road  going up the Tay, look out for the red squirrels I saw 3 and also the turn off to the right to Aodin/Edradynate Estate. There is then a long rideable land rover track climb to the ridge. The pay back is good for a slightly more techy land rover track descent down to Loch  Tummel and then a chill out along the riverside back to Pitlochry.

Pimp my ride 2

OK, not quite on the same ‘pimp my ride’ theme, while you were all working hard at the CX I was enjoying myself in London. Well not entirely true, I didn’t manage to hire one of Boris’s bike. However there were plenty of bikes to spot. I came across this very shiny SC Chameleon, high and dry up on the railings. It is kitted out for commuting with slick tyres and 6″ travel for the kerbs and mud guards for the mud? Is this consumerism gone crazy or am I missing the point? Can anyone explain it or even better it?I also came across this drummer bike, so bikes can earn you money and not just leave you penniless. Any other ideas for making money out of your bike?

Here are a couple of ride suggestions that I have done before. We can decide on the day…. both approx 3-4 hours; nothing technical; great scenery and riverside return trails, trees should be fantastic colour too.

Fancy dress optional!

Last chance to ride before British Summertime ends.

Meet at Escape Route Bikes ready to ride @ 10am

Chris, sorry cant offer lift.

PS this is a saturday ride

Devil’s Staircase & Ciaran Path – this Sunday

Hi folks,

Devil’s Staircase & Ciaran path

Looks like 25km but a big day out, if you have armour bring it. This is a link to sunday’s ride start at Devil’s staircase 10am (ready to ride), along to Blackwater reservoir, down to Kinlochleven for food stop and back up to the devil’s staircase. We will leave the bigger route coming out of Kinlochleven for another time. Can we share lifts, I have space for 3?

Saturday 29 October – Pitlochry

Hi there
So if you are not doing Sam’s Lakes trip, here is an alternative day trip. For the last few years I have been up in Pitlochry at this time of year (the autumn colours will be amazing) and I have done some of the ‘Escape Route’ routes. I will post these nearer the time.

2nd October – Ciaran Path & Devil’s Staircase (optional)

Hi there
Some of you may remember Andy Oz from 2008, he’s back over here for a few more weeks and I suggested that the Ciaran path would be a suitable send off, it is also been on my wish list to do for some time. Suggest armour and 10am start at Kinlochleven or Devil’s Staircase.

Here are some route options:
