Sun 30th Sept – Campsie MTB Raid

Myself and Alison are planning the following ride this Sunday (30th Sept), as an alternative to the 5 ferries which has already been posted on the calendar (also a fantastic ride). Please confirm interest, if you are intending to ride with us.

Ready to ride at 10:00AM prompt on bridge beside Kirki Puffer on Kirkintilloch Main Street, then (1) On canal bank ride to Queenzieburn then climb to Birkenburn Reservoir, (2) Return to Milton of Campsie and do loop behind primary school, (3) Cort-ma Law – choice of either up Crow Road or techy climb behind Big Al’s at Clachan of Campsie (I only intend to ride up just past the sheep shelter as cannot drop my seat post enough for the descent – atleast that’s my excuse), (4) Cafe stop at Tea Room at Clachan of Campsie (bring a lock) then (5) Return via Lennox Forrest (harder) or Old Railway Line – (easier).

Additional Notes:

1. There is alot of climbing on this route, but that should not put anyone off coming along. The stronger climbers should repeat the climbs and there are plenty of options to split and recombine and make the day enjoyable for everyone. It’s a good ride and easy for people to bail if they are short for time.

2. There is a car parking area beside the church but might be busy on Sunday Morning. There is also a big car park at Sainsbury’s – but they have a 3 hr limit sign up. Also, there is parking around the council offices.

3. Public Transport from City Centre – best option would be to get the train to Lenzie. If you are doing this let me know and I can meet you there (early enough to allow us to get to Kirki Puffer for 10:00AM – only a 5 minute ride).

4. If there is some interest, I will put this on the calendar.

Introductory Ride – Thurs 28th June – 7pm

Myself & Alison are planning to be at the club car park (Stewart Street) on Thursday night at 7pm (ready to ride time) for an easy paced ride. The ride will be mainly pitched for any new comers who fancy riding with the club. I am not intending a fast and super technical ride but am happy to vary the ride depending on who turns up.

PS The usual night for introductory rides is Wednesday, however, I have been unable to make it along so far and am keen to give people the option of a Thursday this week.

Carn Ban Mor Extended Loop (with a couple of Munroes) – This Sunday…

Myself and Alison are planning to ride this on Sunday (27th May), 09:30AM prompt start at the car park nearest Achleum. The plan is to take in Mullach Clach a Bhlair and Sgor Gaoith (after Sanny marked-up my map a couple of years ago). My folks will be staying in the area for most of that weekend (and the following weekend) and we will be staying with them. If anyone fancies the Sunday ride then please let me know asap.

Great Glen Way/ West Highland Way over a Weekend in July…

Myself & Grant Hill are planning to ride the Great Glen Way (GGW) and West Highland Way (WHW) over a weekend in July (7th/8th). The plan is to take the train from Glasgow to Inverness on Friday 6th July (arriving ~19:30pm in Inverness). On the Saturday, we will ride the GGW and a bit of the WHW, staying in Kinlochleven. On the Sunday, we aim to ride back to Milngavie. A few years ago, I rode the Westie with Graham Anderton and Euan McDougal in a day (time flies). So this is the next step. The GGW/WHW ride was originally suggested by Paivi during the Balmaha weekend in January. Paivi & Dave might be joining Grant and myself but that needs to be confirmed. Continue reading

Looking for 2 MTBs ~ £200 Each, ~16/17″, Pref HT

A couple of friends are looking for second hand mtb bikes for around £200. As they spend most of their time running they are reluctant to spend much more than £200 in case they don’t enjoy biking or pick up too many injuries. If anyone has a bike kicking around and looking to sell then please get in touch. The sizes would be ~16/17″, preferably hardtail. There might an Al Trek Road Bike that might be used as (part) exchange. Not sure of exact details. Please give me a shout if interested.

Sat 9am Campsie Road Ride – Leave the Late

Short notice. Myself & Simon are doing a Campsie road ride Saturday morning (31st March). Leaving Lenzie at 09:00 prompt (Woodilee Traffic Lights/Garngaber Road). Riding to that start of the Tak (canal bank) to start climbing at 09:30 prompt. Alison will be heading out before us so will we be aiming to catch her up. Turning left at top of Tak towards Carron Valley windfarm road, then round windfarm road, descend Tak then return to Lenzie for 11:30. Hope to see some of you tommorrow. The times are ready-to-ride times and both myself & Simon have stuff on during the afternoon so we cannot spend time faffing around. The call tommorrow will be Leave the Late.
