Menteiths- Ride Report

So, I am going to keep this short n’ sweet….especially as most of you know this route.

12 hardy soles decided to brave the micro-climate of Aberfoyle (it seemed to be sunny everywhere else) and set off on the usual route clockwise. As well as some new faces who have been enticed via Facebook (Jim and Thomas) we were also joined by a GMBC newbie, Neil, who would have been in his right to complain to trade descriptions…. it was not quite the introductory ride as described.

Sunday 18th May – XC or Road?

Hi Folks,

Planning to head out for a ride on Sunday 18th May, but thought I’d see if either of these are appealing to folks before i stick on the lCallander.

Option 1- Mentieths- Classic GMBC ride starting from Aberfoyle that’s not been on the Calender for a while. Will be muddy but that’s half the fun! Could extend over to Loch Venacher and check out the newly opened track to Kilmahog. (its lovely)

Option 2- Loch Katrine Road Ride- starting from Aberfoyle in reverse. Could extend this to include the new section of footpath that follows the Old Military road to Inversnaid. I’ll be on my cross bike, so no need for a road bike!

Option 3- Ochils/Dumyat alternative – Head out of Bridge of Allan through Mine Woods as usual, then continue past Dumyat. This loop goes around the back of Dunyat mainly on tracks with some XC, then sweeps done into Menstrie.

As you can see, I am keen to get out, so if you are interested in any, state your preference!

Just to confuse folks further, John and I doing Glen Ample loop tomorrow, starting at s leisurely 11am from car park for Ben Led, near Callander. After today do expect some snow to Lochearnhead, but route 7 back should be ok. Ride not technical, about 25mules. Bring lunch. Post if interested so we get there on time!

interested, or we wont be rushing to get there!

Riding in the Bush… A Short (as I could!) Ride Report from NZ

So, as a few people have been asking about our trip to NZ, and more importantly the riding, so here is a wee ride report, with plenty or photos.

Ride 1: Rotorua

Trails: Whakarewarewa forest (also known as The Redwoods)www.riderotorua.com/

The trail network is one of the oldest in NZ, and with 130km network of trails, and we could- and possibly should- have spent more than one day here. The trials are all man-made but nothing like our trail centres as you are riding on a combination of loose, dusty forest floor, with some fire roads cutting between them.

Club Night Out – Friday 20th September

Folks,

Now the summer holidays (and the sunshine) have deserted us, a few off have been chatting about organising a club night out so we can all get together, catch up on news, and gear up for winter riding…literally after wearing wrong shorts today. Brrrr.

So, think Inn Deep just off Great Western Road- Graham tells us its a Williams Brothers pub, so lots of lovely craft beer to be had. http://www.inndeep.com/

Suggest a start time for 7.30-8pm, although I’m sure a few folk will be there straight from work for some food.

Shout out if your in.

Cheers,

Sam

p.s. apologies to the pub committee who have suggested a pub ride the next day, but dates were proving problematic! So, its 2 for 1 time, unless weather affects things!
