Carn Laith off Blair Atholl

In a change of plan Chris and I headed up to Blair Atholl today and tackled Carn Laith off Glen Tilt for 5hrs.  A mixture of Hikie Bikie(this one was steep), loose rocky descent, off piste singletrack, open hill top cycling and the obligatory Glen Tilt river crossing.

Here’s a selection of photos from what proved to be a great day out:-http://www.flickr.com/groups/glasgowmbc/pool/with/7617943532

There’s several other nice hilltops in that area to take in. Next, Carn a’ Chlamain. It’s worth a look.

Tick alert

Up till 4 weeks ago I hadnt seen a tick, this is my third, so I thought I would share the little blighter. I am no expert but we are looking at it’s tail, it’s head is in my leg. This was the biggest and the most difficult one to remove cleanly. I really struggled with ordinary tweezers to twist it out so I have ordered the O’Tom tick tweezers that the Lyme Disease Association recommends http://www.lymediseaseaction.org.uk/ from the manufacturer http://.otom.com/how-to-remove-a-tick and there is a quaint little video, apparently is works on pets and partners. I will have 5 spare at $4.17 or £2.67 call it £2.50  if anyone is interested.

Alternatively don’t wear shorts or sleeveless tops

Glentress Saturday — change of plan!!!

Hi, change of plan from  Saturday 10am. Sanny, Reuben, Shearer and I meeting at the Spittal of Glenshee to tackle 3 munroes around Glas Tulaichean. Should be leaving there for 9:30 hopefully.

This is a Sanny adventure, however not the big hikie bikie……I checked the Os map and theres definetly a track, but this means nothing 😀

Happy biking.

Wanted – Bike Bits

Hi, anyone out there wanting to sell unwanted stuff for ££’s or beer or seen sales stuff in bin ends? Finally getting hardtail built up and need the following:-

  • Rear disc brake or pair, if the price is right (with callipers, levers and hoses, if possible)
  • Rear disc brake adaptor, depending on calliper to IS 160.
  • Front disc brake adaptor, depending on calliper to Manitou post 180.
  • Shifters 9 speed and 3 speed, preferably SRAM but Shimano will do (I have front and rear mechs)
  • Bars with 40 – 50mm riser
  • Stem, approx 60mm, for 1 1/8 steerer

Midge repellent

Just wondered, in a fairly non-scientific way, how effective the various repellent products are?  We all have our favourite, but how many got bitten and how many times?

From last nights ride at least 4 used Smidge, at least one used Skin so Soft and there may have been a Jungle user too.

Any comments so far:- I got less than 10 bites in total using Smidge.

Social Pub Crawl

The weather for saturday says we should be ok until late afternoon for the pub run with 3 seperate sites saying dry morning with light showers late afternoon and temp’s about 13/14C. If you’re thinking of coming along then 10am meet at usual car park before heading to Carbeth Inn for bacon roll and coffee/Guinness before going over to Blane valley and Swan Inn for lunch about 1-2pm. If the weather holds we’ll go on to Kincaid house, Stables and Wheatsheaf before back to Milngavie for BBQ at Mugdock. I’ll be in car park for the start so hope to see you there.
