Update – this ride is now confirmed for Saturday 12th Oct.
Weather dependent but it’s a classic on a good day. Autumn colours, great scenery and a cafe finish. 12th or 13th Oct – will choose the best day weather-wise. If it’s miserable both days then I’ll postpone.
You may or may not be aware of the Single Speed UK event being held at Comrie Croft at the end of August. It’s a charity event, organised by volunteers and is supporting Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY). We’re actively seeking either donations to the fund raising or sponsorship support & prizes for the event itself. We have a large community of riders within GMBC and surely you know some businesses or individuals who would like to lend their support.
CRiY, is close to the hearts of many in the cycling community, former British youth cycling champion Ben Forsyth (son of Scottish world championship winning endurance mountain bike rider Keith Forsyth) lost his life to a cardiac condition at the age of 20 last year. Read the story here.
We’re overdue a club trip/social. So, why not join some GMBCers & sign up for a weekend of riding & social activities at the GMBC-sponsored Single Speed UK event Comrie Croft? What’s the plan?
Fri. 23-Aug to Sun. 25-Aug.
Friday – a couple of hours evening ride on local hills & trails – mid-ride pit stop at the pub in Comrie, return to the Croft to the onsite bar.

Hi, we’ve been contacted by a student called Marco who is looking for our help. He’s needing to collect data for a uni project (HNC in Product Design). Here’s a link to his survey;
It’s been a while since we had a club social and what better way to celebrate all the recent GMBC successes than with a trip down the pub! So why not join us this Saturday in the upstairs bar area for some food, drinks and banter…
All welcome, just comment below to let us know if you can make it along.
At the end of last year, concerns were raised around some of the practicalities of our clubhouse venue. The committee listened and over the last few months, we have been in contact with several different venues to ensure that the club’s requirements can be met and have found, what we believe to be a fantastic premises!
Situated on Gavin’s Mill Way (via the road into Tesco Milngavie), Gavin’s Mill (run by volunteers) operates as a fair trade shop and café owned by the Gavin’s Mill Community Project and is described as “a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation, which aims to look after Gavin’s Mill as a community resource, and to work with local community groups to develop it into a centre for sustainable food and crafts, building on the heritage of the Mill and its surroundings.”
From early discussions, we were delighted with the Mill’s ethos and enthusiasm to work with local groups as well as being open and amenable to meet our club’s requirements (e.g. enabling us to fit a new tap so we can wash our bikes!)
The committee are delighted to announce Sprockets Cycles as GMBC’s new club sponsor.
At the AGM, it was agreed the time was right to part ways with our
previous sponsor and enable the committee to nominate a new sponsor
capable of delivering all round best value for club members.
Hi, here are the documents for the AGM this Wednesday instead of a ride (up at the club hall, refreshments available, open to all but voting rights only for current club members);
It’s that time of year again when the weather turns sour that we decide to host our AGM. It gives you an excuse to be out of the rain and come and see what’s been happening in your club. It kicks off at 7.30pm at the Bearsden Milngavie Sports Club bar area upstairs.
What is the purpose of an AGM you ask?
It’s to allow club members to hear/see reports from the committee on the achievements and work of the club over the year.
For members to elect the committee for next year.
If required, to make changes to the club constitution.
It’s to give you, the paying club members an insight to what’s been going on and to have your say about what happens in the future. It’s a very worthwhile event and it normally lasts the length of a summers evening club ride. There will be refreshments, some snacks and a wee prize draw for the attendees.
It’s not mandatory attendance but it’s only one evening out of the year. As it’s on a Wednesday night which is our busiest evenings for club rides, I’m assuming we’ll be filled to capacity (hopefully). There’s normally a bunch who head out earlier that evening for a club ride and finish at the AGM, so keep an eye on social media posts nearer the time for those updates.
