Final Roll Call and Arrangements for Balmahoooha!

Hi all,
Given, as usual, the list of those going changes a little in final days this is the final notification of who I have and their accomodation (there is also a free twin room space with Gavin if anyone is interested in upgrading from Bunkroom or someone else joining in?)
Meeting point for next weekend is at Bullands, they should be expecting us so shouldnt be surprised when ~26 bikers wonder in 🙂 Continue reading

Ardgarten Loop Sunday?

Weather for Sunday is looking good, anybody fancy getting some miles in?  For those unfamiliar with it, it’s ~20miles around the Ardgarten peninsula, mostly on fire road/forest track, with a more interesting section from the southern end into Lochgoilhead (nothing too bad, I’ve done it on a CX bike), and over the Rest And Be Thankful.  Opportunity for a stop in Lochgoilhead.  The forecast is for blue skies, and the views are big.  I’ll probably take the CX bike again.  Tracklog here.  Shout out if interested.

Any up for a bike ride on Saturday 10th Jan?

As above, does anyone fancy an away ride next Saturday? I’m thinking of a fairly decent ride, 4 or so hours.

There is currently some exciting weather forecast towards the end of the week, so will decide on a venue later in the week depending on how the weather looks. Something Perthshire way, Pentland Hills or maybe even Southern Uplands depending on how the forecast looks.

Sign Up For Easter Weekend Trip

Hi.  We’ve used club funds to pay the deposit for exclusive use of the Ardenbeg Bunkhouse in Grantown-on-Spey (approx 15miles north east of Aviemore).  The trip will be for 4 nights, arriving Thu 2nd April, departing Mon 6th April.  Bunkhouse accommodation will cost £74per person for the weekend (assuming we get 19+ people signing up).

Grantown is a great base for mountain biking with it being a short distance from both the Glenlivet trail centre and all the classic trails near Aviemore & Rothiemurchus, not to mention a skills loop in Grantown itself.  With all the riding nearby there should be options to suit everyone.  As is usual with club weekend trips we’ll be sharing the catering duties and there will be plenty of great banter (although, no hot tub this time!).

All the details for signing up & making your payment can be found on the link below:

I know it’s the middle of winter… but any interest in a big summer ride?

In the interests of keeping spirits up during the dreachness of mid-winter I’ve been thinking about summer.

Anyone interest in this?

Shindig route

Milngavie>Westie to Inversnaid>Aberfoyle>Calander>Glen Ample>Calander>Aberfoyle>Strathblane>Milngavie

200km (125 miles) mostly off-road. The route was set by Bryan Dawson for Shand Cycles ‘Shindig’ bike packing over-nighter.

Planning on doing it in a day, perhaps on CX bike  – possibly second weekend in June or last weekend in July. Likely a 6am start and a midnight finish. All TBC

It’s obviously going to be hard work, but at least there’s plenty of time to get the miles in!

Hogmanay Local Ride & Beer

Hi.  As per the title really – it’s a local ride followed by a sociable post-ride beer/non-alcoholic beverage in a local pub (location TBC, probably the Burnbrae).

10:30 departure from the club hall, probably riding for 3-4 hours – maybe with a short cafe stop before returning to town to find a warm pub.  I’m trying to pack in as many of the best local trails as possible.

Take front & rear lights in case it’s dark when leaving the pub.  NB: it won’t be a long session in the pub, just that the days are short!
