Upcoming Rides

Just wanted to make you aware of a few things that might impact local rides in the near future:

  • Our planned calendar of early Wednesday introductory rides comes to an end this week.  That said, if there’s a demand for an easier paced 7pm Wednesday ride and people have  appropriate gear for night riding then please post up an event in the calendar.   From speaking to folks tonight it does seem like there’s folks up for it as we go into Autumn.
  • As part of the Great Outdoor Festival over the next 10 days or so there will be events on up at Mugdock Park (eg. Canicross, Bikejor and MTB skills sessions) which will make the park busier than normal so please consider other users or perhaps an alternative location for your riding.

Night Riding – Updated and Improved

Following on from the post below this has snow-balled into an optional over nighter. So the new and improved plan is:

– Meet at Glentress Peel Carpark at 6:30pm on Friday 14th September ready to ride by 7pm

– Night ride some of the fun trails there

– Optional take away, carryout and overnight stay at http://www.bunk-house.co.uk/

– Optional ride on the Saturday

The bunkhouse has decent availability but I need to book it. If you let me know by this Thursday if you want accommodation I’ll sort the booking out. It is £20 pppn with a £10 deposit.

Night Riding – Beyond Mugdock

After last week’s mini adventure up Dumyat and excellent descent in the dark there was some talk of doing a proper away night ride. This might just be because it was the first chance to really use the lights this year and we hadn’t been soured on it by months of plugging around Mugdock on filthy dark nights.  Anyway, the rough thoughts were:

– Trail centre (e.g.) Glentress to avoid getting lost and be fast and fun

– Probably a Friday night so as not to be “school night”

– Start 8ish to allow travel from work / home and a good couple of hours riding

Would anyone be up for this on Friday 14th September? If the date’s an issue please post up as there will be plenty of manky dark Friday’s to chose from.

One for the roadies… and calling flying scot owners

On saturday the 1st September it is the Georgetown cup – a team time trial held at Inchinnan, need to get 8 riders in each team, entry only £8, all money to charity. It’s a popular event and plenty time for some sneaky practice.

I am entering with (whispers) a roadie club, but I am sure there are plenty of GMBC riders that could get a good time on the 7.2 mile course – all flat. There will be some catering and drinks – again all for accord hospice. The losing team gets the ‘Georgetown Pie’

In addition they are trying to get as many flying scot owners to show off their bikes, money will be collected from people putting in a bucket for each of your favourite bike (for charity) and the winning bike gets a prize too… so [cough] simon h [cough] if you have a classy bike, get it shown off, or come for a lookie!
