Firework Ride

Don’t forget the firework ride this Wednesday (2nd November).

Bring as many fireworks/sparklers as you can fit in your camelbak (or panniers if you’re feeling particulalry burny), and join us for a ride out to a mystery remote spot where we can let them off accompanied by some hot dogs and mulled wine (courtesy of GMBC).

Non (paid up!) members will be pushed off a cliff and/or burnt in a large doll fashioned from wicker.

Hope the weather’s decent!

Scottish Bike Show Sportive 2012 (Roadies)

Hi all,

After the success of the first Scottish Bike show that took place this April, they have decided to host another.  But this time, they’re introducing a Sportive that runs alongside the show.

I signed up to be kept informed of any updates and received the following info below:

TSBS Sportive News……..

Dear all

The inaugural Scottish Bike Show Sportive 2012 will take place on Sunday 15th April around the beautiful scenery of Loch Lomond and Loch Katrine to kick off the start of the sportive season!

We are happy to announce both routes for the sportive have been signed off by the local Loch Lomond authorities. The 65 mile challenge ride and the 100 mile sportive will be available for entry within the next couple of weeks and we promise you will be the first to know when the entry is live.

Your entry to the sportive will also gain you access to one day of The Scottish Bike Show of your choice.

  • Entry to the challenge ride: £21.00
  • Entry to the sportive ride: £25.00

*Group booking rates will also be available for 6 or more riders. Full entry details to follow shortly.

With Balloch Castle proposed as the start and finish point, the routes will include timed rides, steep climbs, feed stations, bike maintenance points and plenty more to ensure a great ride.

Fun for the family or the serious sportive rider, why not let your friends and family know about the first ever sportive ride around Loch Lomond and kick off the season with a bang.

At £21/25, it’s crackin value compared to the Trossachs Ton & other high profile Sportives.  It’s even better value considering they also charge £10 to gain entry to the actual Bike Show and that’ll be included in the price!

I think a show of hands at this stage, in preparation for the entry day would be a wise idea along with the fact that we’ll gain a group booking if we’ve 6 or more riders.  I’m assuming due to the value, route and that it’s a supported event, the places will fill up very quickly.

I’m in, please let me know if you’ll join me!

Cheers

Club Social Night Out – Friday 28th October

Hello peeps,

Believe it or not, it’s been two months since our last lycra free social night.

Venue is slightly different this time but has proved popular in the past.  We’re meeting at The Curlers Rest on Byres Road (beside Hillhead underground station).

Time: 7.30 for 8pm

They have German Beer-Hall style tables in the upstairs which I can reserve if I can get a show of hands please.  The grub is very good, the menu changes on a daily basis and they serve food till 10pm.  They have a vast selection of speciality beers inc fruity ones, lager, ales, wines and spirits.

There’s always the option of Oran Mor for the after party!  It’s the last social before the Christmas night out.  I hope to see you there.

Cheers

Pitlochry Saturday 29th Oct

Pitlochry

Pitlochry2

Here are a couple of ride suggestions that I have done before. We can decide on the day…. both approx 3-4 hours; nothing technical; great scenery and riverside return trails, trees should be fantastic colour too.

Fancy dress optional!

Last chance to ride before British Summertime ends.

Meet at Escape Route Bikes ready to ride @ 10am

Chris, sorry cant offer lift.

PS this is a saturday ride

Scottish Cyclocross – Round 2, Stirling on 16 October

This Sunday is the second round of the SCX series at Plean Park in Stirling. Only Ross, Lyndsey and myself were at the Irvine race but it was a belter, weather was better at the coast too – great spectator course it was too, if only to watch me, an OCD bike cleaning fetishist riding his shiney CX bike through some sand dunes…I am still having flashbacks! It is shaping up to have some fast and furious racing so worth a go at spectating or even riding, as you don’t need to be fast or furious… I’m not. You don’t even need a CX bike. Check out http://www.scottishcyclocross.org.uk

Not long to Mugdock CX too, one hour of bike torture on a proper hardcore course…ideal for MTBers 🙂

Devil’s Staircase & Ciaran Path – this Sunday

Hi folks,

Devil’s Staircase & Ciaran path

Looks like 25km but a big day out, if you have armour bring it. This is a link to sunday’s ride start at Devil’s staircase 10am (ready to ride), along to Blackwater reservoir, down to Kinlochleven for food stop and back up to the devil’s staircase. We will leave the bigger route coming out of Kinlochleven for another time. Can we share lifts, I have space for 3?
