2020 Subscriptions

From Luke (GMBC Chairman)

Hi everyone,

It’s (finally) that time of year again to put about half the cost of a tyre towards the running of the club. This will enable us to provide a number of benefits. I won’t try to list them all, but for this year we have a few things planned:

– Social Wednesday rides mixing all of us together.
– Weekends away.
– An actual club BBQ in an exclusive rural location.
– Insane amounts of local trail knowledge
– “fantastic” “chat” during all sanctioned club rides.

Please use the web collect as normal. As we have had delays this year, the deadline for discounted £20 membership is the end of March.

Cheers on behalf of the committee

SMBO Sunday 27th October – Hosted by GMBC – New Venue

Come join us on Sunday 27th October for what is being tipped “as the greatest round in SMBO history”. The concept is genius…mountain biking and orienteering in and around Mugdock Country Park and surrounding areas! Following on from the success of last years event, Glasgow Mountain Bike Club are hosting another round of Scottish Mountain Bike Orienteering  2019 Series bmbo.org.uk and promises to be a fun day out. Last year we hosted around 40 riders, and everyone came back with a smile on their face and splattered in mud.

Save The Date: Mugdock SMBO

Sunday 27th Oct is the Mugdock round of the Scottish MTB Orienteering series, based at the Kirkhouse Inn, Strathblane. The checkpoints are being planned and refreshments are being ordered. Keep the date free to come along and try your hand at navigating around Mugdock & surroundings in the 3 hour race format. More details about times, sign on and cost etc will be confirmed on the calendar event below;

Trossachs MTB Orienteering

The weather looks good for the Trossachs round of the MTB Orienteering season which is on this Saturday, starting at Brig O’ Turk. It’s a time limited race (probably 3 hours) to collect as many checkpoints as possible. If you’re late back you lose points. The route you choose is up to you. It’s a great event format for any ability level, you go at your own pace (unless you’re in a team with Tom Wylie 🙂 ). There’s usually munchies after the event and a relaxed vibe. Can’t say fairer than that for £15!

Sunday Local(ish) Ride

I’m planning a localish bike ride on Sunday 08-Sep. It’s weather dependent but at the moment it’s looking OK. Meet in front of Gavin’s Mill building (in the Tesco car park, Milngavie), ready to ride for 10am.

Take some food but I’m planning on a cafe stop in Killearn. The route will take us out of Milngavie towards Carbeth then there’s a couple of options depending on the weather but we’ll end up in Killearn for a break. Then it’s the pipe track back to Strathblane & up to Mugdock before heading back to Milngavie for fist bumps and high fives. Including the stop I guess this will take about 4.5hrs.

Terrain is expected to be non-gnarly for the most part. Pace will be on the slow side of medium speed. Basically it’s a sociable “bimble”.
