Pitlochry Ride: Sat. 26th Oct

I’m planning to head back up to Pitlochry to ride some of the trails Chris, Ieva and I had a look at a few weeks ago.  The autumn colours should be in full flow.  The ride is a good mix of forest and open moorland with plenty of singletrack and epic scenery.  The mid-ride pub stop is pretty good too!  I’m meeting Chris J up there, so who’s up for joining us?

Anyone fancy riding Fairlie Moor soon?

Another summer has come and gone and I’ve still not managed to get a GMBC ride organised for the moor!. So, after the Lakes weekend and the Perth Enduro are done, I’ll try and get a saturday ride on the calendar, If anyone has any preferences please post up.

There are numerous options to start and finish, but best option for a ride is to use the train as that means easy access from Glasgow and a few pints of the real ales available at the village inn….

Peak District Weekend Trip: 2 spaces available

In previous years we’ve often had a weekend away near the start of November, usually up north.  This year, for a change, we’re heading south……. to the Peak District.  We have 2 of the best mountain bike guides from the area to show us some of the best trails – our very own Paivi & Dave!

The accommodation has been booked already and there are 2 spaces remaining.  It’s first come, first served for these spaces.  If you want a space then post up here.  Dawn has booked farmhouse/cottage type accommodation in Tideswell for 3 nights – 8th to 11th November.  Currently the cost is £50 for the 3 nights but this may come down if there are 2 more takers for the spare beds.  This doesn’t include any food for the weekend though.

If the spaces get taken but you’re still interested in coming along then we can give you details of the location if you want to look for your own accommodation.  More details of the trip:

Ciaran Path

Top of Devil’s Staircase-ascent

Just 30mins climbing  got Dave and I to the top of the Devil’s Staircase followed by the descent down to the land rover track where we met up with 3 riders. It turned out they were doing the Westie they lost their fourth rider on the jump off the bridge heading towards Rowardennan. Turns out the had ridden with Doug McDonald in Basque. We then ‘cheated’ and rode up on top of the water pipes. The Ciaran Path bit early, by swallowing Dave’s front wheel. I was experimenting with flatties and managed to bounce off the bike, that’s my excuse. 1 hr of downhill singletrack, doesn’t get much better. A quick coffee and cake stop at the Ice Factory fired us up for the climb out of Kinlochleven. Last time I did the route It broke my bike and I had to walk back, I am please to say this time it was only damaged.

Dave found the only mud going

I didn’t need an indicator anyway?

Winter Trail Centre Rides

As we get into late autumn and through into winter I’m planning a regular monthly excursion to some trail centres, probably at the end of each month.  We don’t tend to ride trail centres that often (with the exception of Cathkin perhaps) as there’s so many great natural trails to explore but trail centres have their place, especially in a Scottish winter.

So, where would you like to ride this autumn/winter?  There’s a few obvious favourites but perhaps you know of a few, less familiar all-weather trails – post them up and I’ll add them to the list.
