Arran

Despite predictions of high winds and snow a few of us headed over to Arran today. Obviously no one had told the menagerie of roadies, golfers, drinkers and old-ladies-seeking-tea-shops as the ferry was as busy as ever. We had decided to try and ride the loop up Goat Fell, which as the freezing level was around 300m seemed ambitious. After a short spin on the road to Corrie, a steep section of tarmac gave way to top quality hike-a-bike. It was a steep but interesting  walk up, with great views over the sea and a mountain burn tumbling down rock slabs beside the path. We found snow around 500m, but it was fresh and grippy. The further we ascended the wind increased and by the time we reached our destination it was a bit of a blizzard. Continue reading

The long awaited Club Social Night!! Friday 22nd March!!

Hello peeps,

My apologies for the delay and the lack of recent club social nights.  This was a monthly event that the semi alcoholic and party going club members looked forward too.  It’s also a great chance to get new club members mingling with the regulars.

So, it’s back!!  Normally, we’d host this at month end, when we’ve all got a spare bob or two.  But due to the Skye trip, a majority of us will be away “oop north”.

Venue: Coopers Bar on Great Western Road (499 Gt Western Rd, G12 8HN).  Meeting time of 7pm.

They also offer food, if anyone is peckish.  For the party goers, we can shimmy along to Oran Mor to extend the fun into the early hours.

Please let us know if yer in! Fire it in as a comment.

Cheers

Velodrome arrangements for this Sunday :

The session starts at 4, so please aim to arrive by 345 latest. Enter reception on ground floor and at desk say you are on the GMBC Corporate session. I will be there by 330 and I will pay for us all, so don’t pay at the desk. Once past desk head left and downstairs to bike reception (there are changing rooms and lockers if you need before going downstairs, but most folk have their kit underneath and leave bags in the infield (centre bit in velodrome) ). Bike reception will have a list of names and shoes sizes/bike sizes etc. Pick up your kit and come up the steps to centre area where you can dump bag and have a practice riding round the concrete infield.

We are slightly oversubscribed at 18, however the coach says this is ok as some of us are accredited. On basis that there are 18 of us, it’s £9 a head, which I would ask you pay me before leaving !

So the confirmed names are : Continue reading

Tuesday Night’s Ride: A Report

Cracking show last night!  About 17 folks riding, split over 2 rides; one faster, one more chilled.  3 new faces joined us too!  Dry trails meant no need for the bike wash and copious amounts of tea and banter (and biscuits!)  enjoyed back in the hall afterwards with both groups mingling for a chat.  Magic.

If you weren’t able to join us last night then maybe next time??
