Premium Rush
Anybody considering a jaunt to the cinema may like to check out Premium Rush. It’s basically an extended high-adrenalin bicycle chase across Manhattan, and while the plot would struggle to fill a side of A5, it’s gripping watching a crazed courier on a brakeless fixie ploughing through the traffic while trying to evade his car-driving pursuer – the stunts are amazing. Leave your brain at the door, hang on, and enjoy the ride.
After that, found myself pedalling a bit more furiously on the way to work today – despite being on the hardtail I got drafted by a lycra-clad roadie ;~)
Lights – advice needed!
Hi Folks,
After a couple of midweek rides in the dark, it has become clear that my front light is quite simply not up to the job. Fine on the road and on wider paths (like the Westie), but being on any narrow trail with twists and bumps is quite simply terrifying!
After looking at different lights on different websites, it has all become a wee bit confusing. Most will be using Lux or Lumens as a guide to their strength, so these seem like the most appropriate base to compare, but what levels should I be looking out for? I’ve seen some quoting 100 as great for offroad, but others saying 300 as a minimum; it all seems to depend on the actual type of light or even brand. Can someone shed some light (pardon the pun!) on what I should be looking for? And any ideas about specific lights, I’m aiming around the £50-£70 mark (but would stretch a bit if it’s worth it!), that would be a good buy? Your help will be much appreciated!
Cheers,
Graeme
Wednesday Night 5th September
Hey.
I am a relatively new member
I turned up tonight at 7.20pm just to see a small group of members cycling onto the pedestrian precint. I thought I had tunred up early for the 7.45 pm ride which I thought was the only one listed for the winter season. I decided to quickly change and catch up with the group but obviously chose the wrong route as I never seen them again. Anyway I went out for a ride on my own. Wasnt bothered but just need to know for future knowledge was that a 7pm ride setting off late or the 7.45 deciding to head off early to make the most of the light.
Cheers

Georgetown cup – 1 September
Simon road a stormer on his classy fixed flying scot, Alan, Lyndsey and I all had a go on the 7.2 mile course and set a few PB’s, 160 folk turned out an raised a ton of cash for accord hospice… but highlight of the day was jack from thomsons cycles ripping along the course on a penny farthing in full aero kit – even pulled a tour style victory salute at the end – 28 minutes (course record is 14.17).
Begging
I’m afraid this is a bit cheeky.
I doing Relentless on 6th October as a solo and it’s only just occured to me that it will be dark for 50% of the race – worse I don’t have enough battery power to last 12 hours.
So, I was wondering if I could borrow batteries…. I’ll pay in beer, cash, favours. I’ll come get ’em on the 5th and drop them off (fully charged!) on the 8th (Monday). All damage etc. paid for if course! Lights are magicshine MJ 808 – aka. Deal extreme ones that lots of people have.
This would be a great help – I think I’ll need three – so it would meen shelling out £100 plus for one use.
On a related note, anyone use/d Hope Vision 1 lights? Seem to be on offer some places.
Biking down Ben Vorlich film
Here’s a wee film I made of us descending down Vorlich. It’s 10 minutes or so and involves me crashing at around the half way mark. I’ve slowed the crash down for the sadists amongst you. Enjoy.

One for the roadies… and calling flying scot owners
On saturday the 1st September it is the Georgetown cup – a team time trial held at Inchinnan, need to get 8 riders in each team, entry only £8, all money to charity. It’s a popular event and plenty time for some sneaky practice.
http://www.glasgowcouriers.com/the_georgeotwn_cup.html
I am entering with (whispers) a roadie club, but I am sure there are plenty of GMBC riders that could get a good time on the 7.2 mile course – all flat. There will be some catering and drinks – again all for accord hospice. The losing team gets the ‘Georgetown Pie’
In addition they are trying to get as many flying scot owners to show off their bikes, money will be collected from people putting in a bucket for each of your favourite bike (for charity) and the winning bike gets a prize too… so [cough] simon h [cough] if you have a classy bike, get it shown off, or come for a lookie!
