Yes, we cheated.
Riding the Great Glen Way and the West Highland Way, back to back, over two days sounds like a bit of a crazy plan, and it was. It was hatched by Paivi back in January during a GMBC social ride, and it should be noted that only Gerry and I actually took part in this epic, Paivi was nowhere to be seen. Continue reading
Dear Mugdock,
I nearly gave up the ghost on you after last weeks drenching and ride through your muddy quagmire. Tonight was an altogether different event, dry, almost ‘dusty’ in sections and pretty warm and fresh. It was my next door neighbour, Pat’s first foray into night riding, he went home with a big smile on his face too. The love has returned. Sorry Mugdock for nearly spurning you.
Yours appologetically,
D
Headed up there on Saturday – gorgeous day and only 2 of us using the uplift! Here’s a wee film of the red run – apologies for the angle, the Gopro moved just as I left. Oh, and my back brake stopped working around 1/4 of the way down….
12hour 150mile Coast to Coast, could this be a new challenge?

I wrote a wee piece on this a while ago, and the other day I started a Singletrack forum thread on it – see link below for updates :

A rather poorly attended Tuesday evening ride with only four of us out, for what was a (mostly) dry and reasonably warm winters night. Dean, Donald, myself and another rider I can’t recall rode along the westie, climbing up just to the top of Rocky and Rooty. The route down was littered with a number of fallen branches which made some of the normal lines much more interesting than normal.
Riverside wasn’t in the best shape with some sections having become rather boggy again (more trail maintenance required i think). At this point a maxle stripping caused our party to reduce to three and after saying our goodbyes, we continued on the westie to the Glengoyne distillery and came back along the pipe track which took about an hour.
We had just climbed the hill between Strathblane and Mugdock when the heavens opened and we were totally soaked. At this point we decided that we couldn’t get any wetter and just headed down the normal route to Milngavie: Snaky et al.
Hey. Anybody recommend some good bothy bike routes for me to take on in 2013. I know where all the Scottish bothies are located but looking for some feedback on the best routes to link up with overnight bothy stays.
Cheers
Al
for a great weekend in Dales! good company, nice trails and pretty good weather too :-). hope you all made it back home ok. Could Graham and Chris upload the pictures at some point? Thanks. Paivi and Dave ( who left his pedals on the hire bike :-))
Myself & Alison are just back from a couple of fantastic weeks road (cross-bike) riding in thePyrenees. Continue reading
