…. Six was the magic number last night as Pistol Pete, Iainc, Chris J, myself, Rossco and Gavin headed out for a spin. Dougalston was despatched in quick time followed by a spin around the reservoir as we headed up to Loch Ardinning. Taking an alternative route I had scoped out a few weeks ago and which will make for a nice summer alternative, we popped out on the main Loch Ardinning trails having avoided the slough of despond where the cattle have done their best to make things unpleasant. Snow, Mud, Singletrack & Waterfalls
Myself, Chris & Nick (who’s just joined the club) headed up just North of Perth today for a ride round Glen Garr and Little Glen Shee. It turned out to be a bit of a winter classic, with the weather far exceeding the forecast and a very varied mix of riding around the 41km loop . It’s only just over an hour from Glasgow, which is great considering the quality of the riding.
Forestry commission kilpatrick hills plans
Gavin T passed this on to me for input ,looks like the forestry commission have most trails covered ,one which could be done is the south westerly from duncolm to greenside reservoir .but all in all if these improvements are completed it will be amasing as the down hill runs which have been cut by the local young team are gnarly and if any one has riding them will no ,I have spent a lot of time up there and the are sweet decents and tough ascents ,all in all another great wee addition to the greater glasgow mtb scene.
Topper Wed night ride
…..And so it was that four hardy souls braved the elements (ok, it was a touch chilly) and headed out into the inky darkness of Mugdock. Pistol Pete, Tom “trainer wheels” Downie, Genius McConcept and I headed out via Dougalston on some fairly hard frozen trails. Carefully avoiding the dumpling in a BMW in Virgin Active who appeared keen to reverse into us, we opted for a fast blast round the trails above the reservoir before heading across to the rocky rooty and out to Carbeth. As we headed out towards Craigallion, the snow started to appear on the trails and made for terrific riding – grippy and fast. Pete took us through Carbeth for a play on what’s left of the new trails before taking us down a cracking singletrack descent to the Carbeth Inn that I’d not ridden before. Genius opted for the early bath while the three amigos headed back along the Westie and in via the riverbank and golf club trails. Despite the disadvantage of riding on 26er wheels ( trainer wheels / kiddies bike / delete as appropriate), Tom commented that it was one of the nicest evening rides he’d done in a while with zero faff and a reasonable pace to ensure that no one got cold.
All in, it was a really nice night to be out with the trails in near perfect condition. So where was everyone else?
Dumgoyne Loop – get out quick before it is closed off
I was out with Andrew last night and we did the Dumgoyne loop. The house near the top of the climb (behind the distillery) near the pipe track is in the process of putting up a very secure gate. Get out quick if you want to do it for the last time.
Pitlochry Ride Report: Type 2 Fun. Maybe.
It’s been awhile since I’ve been out on a decent weekend ride. And after this weekend’s mini-epic at Pitlochry part of me still thinks that’s the case! Definitely a case of Type 2 Fun and as Tom pointed it, verging on Type 3 fun.
This Saturday – Dunkeld ride
I’m planning a cycle from Dunkeld Main Street to Deuchary hill and Loch Ordie. Depending on Time I may try Glen Garr.
The route is a little fuzzy, but for the most part I know it and I have a map…somewhere! 🙂
Park at Hermitage car park for 9:30 ready to leave 9:45.
Tour de Glennifer Braes, start sharp at Roberston Park Carpark, B775 9.00am Sunday 18th
At this short notice I don’t expect anyone to turn up, but, nevertheless I intend to tour the Braes and Fereneze hills and confirm a route to Barrhead for my commute to work. Cafe stop to be included, plus some single track around Brandy Burn, and below Glenburn Resevoir. In this wet weather this should be firmer under tyre than, and may be a useful antidote to, Mugdock. Plus you’ll have the added difficulty of dodging the Highland Coos!
Comment if you want to discuss or come along.
Any takers welcome – Nigel
newish trail centre
Don’t want to steal TIMS thunder here but we were talking in the booza tonight after fire works ride and he was talking about trails at craufurdland, so I had a wee look .Have a look for yourself www.craufurdland.co.uk its got to be worth a try at only 30 mins from glasgow airport. probably better than carron valley.
Even More Lakes Pics!
Another amazing club weekend away – it’s you guys that make it – the great weather and riding helps too! 😉 From a weekend of highlights the biggest buzz for me was the descent down to Rosthwaite – techy, loose and hopping off outcrops of rock before twisting and turning into a wetter, more wooded trail. Fantastic!
