“So I’ve got a great idea!” I said to Marky Mark’s voicemail somewhat enthusiastically. “Ptarmigan off Ben Lomond. Walked it several times years ago. It’s a bit scrambly near the summit but the weather for tomorrow looks ace and it would be rude not to!”. Five mins later and he was on the phone and a plan was hatched. A relaxed start time was the order of the day with a carry up the lesser travelled Ptarmigan footpath on the western flank of the Ben. If the weather turned to shit, we had the option of turning tail while the route up would allow us to check out what we would be riding down later in the day. Continue reading

“Carving” The Kilpatricks
A few weeks back Gerry suggested a loop of the Old Kilpatricks, just west of Glasgow followed by a bite to eat at a local carvery. The combination of bribery with food and a bike ride convinced 16 of us to head out on a very cold & blustery day. Continue reading
Glentress Ride Report
Dene, thanks for your post suggesting a club ride at Glentress! Great idea! Really sorry you couldn’t make it along because of your snowboarding injury. But Dene, if you’re reading this, it was a terrible day out; nobody enjoyed it, the trails were grim, the bikes were terrible, the weather was just awful. Now, for everyone else, here’s what you really missed…..
Where Have All The Biscuits Gone?
The fast ride/slow ride debate is dead – long live the “who ate all the biscuits?” debate!
A Tuesday Night Soaking
“Tuesday. 6pm. Decision time; sit in with some rubbish TV or get out and ride the bike in the snow?” Continue reading
Beinn Dearg and Carn a Chlamain – hitting the new trail jackpot!
“Do you have your bank card with you?” inquired Andy in a manner that gave me slight concern. With the fuel light on and halfway to Perth, I checked my pockets in a slightly concerned manner. “It’s just I left mine at home….” He tailed away. The thick end of eighty five quid later and we were back on the road heading northwards in the warm glow of the rising winter sun. The plan was simple. Pick a day that promised proper winter weather (minus 3 and blue skies with a hint of wispy cloud – check) and knock out two Munros off Glen Tilt that would be a tough walk in but a manageable bike ride. Aviemore Weekend Away – Trip Report
With the weather improving during the week this weekend away was being hotly anticipated by all 23 people signed up for it. And it didn’t disappoint!! There was bucketloads of gorgeous sunny weather, fantastic trails to explore and a lot of laughs and good club spirit. Thanks to everyone who came along and made it what it was. And thanks to the organizers (Sam, Ryszard & Dawn), chefs (Ross, Paivi, Simon & Dave), washer-uppers (everyone else) and brownie slicer extraordinaire (Rueben).

Pitlochry – Farragon Loop
This is a great 40km 4-5hr route about 90mins away from Glasgow. Navigation is easy, it is all weather, great scenery and Escape Route Bikes. Going clockwise, it begins with a fire road climb out of Pitlochry, followed by a great single track descent all the way down into Strathtay. There is then a few kms of quiet C road going up the Tay, look out for the red squirrels I saw 3 and also the turn off to the right to Aodin/Edradynate Estate. There is then a long rideable land rover track climb to the ridge. The pay back is good for a slightly more techy land rover track descent down to Loch Tummel and then a chill out along the riverside back to Pitlochry.
