My biking partner has had to pull out of the Glentress 7 race we had planned to do on Sat 24 May – so if anyone is interested in racing with me, let me know! Looks a good wee event
Planning a ride? Tell everybody about it here.

Hi,
It’s only a couple of weeks until the Easter trip to Braemar so I’ve started thinking about ride options. I’ve managed to come up with a few ideas out of books / internet as a starter. So has anyone got any experience of the routes below? Any other experiences or ideas? I’ve tried to pick stuff close to or starting from Braemar – it seems a shame to drive all that way then drive around all over the place!
Ben Avon – Big loop out of the Scottish Trails Book. 70km and 2000m of ascent so a big epic old day out. Starts from Braemar, hike-a-bike and techy descents.
The Capel Mount – 24km ride, 1000m of ascent. Moderately hard day out on a variety of trails. Some big climbs and descents. Start from Spital of Glen Muick about 40min drive from Braemar.
Linn of Dee Loop – 26km and 450m of ascent. Exploring the upper reaches of the River Dee. Big mountain scenery and singletrack trails. Start from Linn of Dee car park, a short drive or rideable from Braemar.
Lochnagar Loop – Big loop of 44km with 1350m of climbing in big mountain country on the Queen’s estate. Lots of singletrack. Start from Braemar.
Glenlivet Trail Centre (http://www.glenlivetestate.co.uk/things-to-see-do/activities/biking/glenlivet-mountain-bike-trails/) – New trails centre riding about 30 mins drive from Braemar.
There will be quite a range of experience / fitness so it would be good to come up with a few more “moderate” options. Does anyone know any short local loops around Braemar? I guess most of you know I enjoy a bit of hike-a-bike misery but I’d like to avoid a “wickerman” incident after leading everyone through tussocky bog for hours.
Tom
Hi folks,
As you probably all know, for the 2nd year running, our club is hosting one of the 2014 Scottish Mountain Bike (SMBO) events. It was a huge success last year due to the hard work and help offered by committee and club members. Continue reading
hi guys, Myself and a buddy of mine Chris (who’s a mechanic for Dales) are heading to Carron Valley this Sunday. Chris has very kindly offered to teach some basic mechanical and maintenance skills to gain some experience and get your feedback. This is a great opportunity for our new members who haven’t ridden in this area before or might have some questions regarding mechanical tweaks or what to do when things go wrong out on the trails (this happens occaisionally on GMBC rides). Aside from this, Carron Valley has a range of trails which vary in technical level. The maximum number for the tutorial is 4 but other riders are still welcome and the group can be split.
If you’d like to participate in the Mechanical tutorial please reply to rgilmo18@googlemail.com

What’s not to like about the great weather today?
Post up if you are coming out for a spin tonight!
Meet at the clubhouse ready to leave at 7:45pm.
Looks like the weather might clear up for tomorrow’s ride so I’ll be heading out. Who else is up for it?
Hi. Just a quick reminder that the Selkirk ride is this Saturday (09:30 start). IMHO, truly one of the best rides in the Borders! It would be a great ride if you’re planning on entering the excellent Selkirk MTB Marathon event. We can tailor the route to those present & the weather on the day as there are various options to shorten or extend the ride. The riding will require a degree of skill and stamina [not sure why I’m going on it then 🙂 ]. I’d say if you’re comfortable riding red graded trails at a decent speed you should be OK but the route is longer than the red at GT. The route has a mix of trail centre, open moorland track, fireroad and techy forest singletrack. Take food as there’s no cafe en route unless we opt for a descent and a climb. If you have any questions about the route then let me know. Cheers, Graham
Hi. I was contacted by Andy at Glasgow Cycle Speedway to publicise a taster session they’re putting on this Sunday. I think Andy’s on our Facebook group so you can contact him there or find a few more details at the event I’ve posted. I’ll be away in Aviemore this weekend (see the Aviemore event in the calendar) but if you’re in Glasgow and fancy something different then maybe contact Andy and head along. Hopefully there will be more chances later in the year if you can’t make this one.
On last night’s ride Dawn, Tom and myself were mulling over a trip away this weekend. The plan would be to leave Glasgow on Saturday morning, get some riding done, overnight in a hostel and bit more riding on Sunday. The location would probably depend on what the weather at the weekend is doing but at the moment we’re thinking of Aviemore.
Are there any other takers for a spontaneous away ride this weekend? If so, shout up and we’ll sort out logistics/trails etc.
Who’s rising tonight? Blue skies, no rain…we could even venture out to the Whangie?!!!
