GMBC Strikes Back (An Ochil Hills Ride Report)

So.  The Ochils.  It’s a GMBC “classic ride” (before my time).  It’s one that long-term club members (OK, Pete Morgan at least) talk about and get all misty eyed with tales of big climbs, great views and steep descents.  First, some history; last year Elizabeth, Jack, Dawn and myself decided to have a go at it.  We attempted it on a muggy, humid day where the tops of the Ochils were obscured by mist/fog/cloud and a hasty descent veering away from a fenceline saw us hopelessly lost and we spent about 2.5 – 3hours tramping about in the bog and moors before giving up and returning to Tillicoultry.  Ochils 1  : GMBC nil.  When Elizabeth suggested a re-match I was up for it.  What would happen this time?? Ben Lawers Road Ride ~95 miles – 14th Sept

Hi,

Simon Simpson, Chris Johnstone and myself are doing Ben Lawers road ride ~95 miles on 14th Sept. Likely to be a day ride, but if people are interested then it could be extended to a weekend, possibly staying at the bunkhouse in Weem. Plan is start in Aberfedly, via Amulree, South Loch Tay, Killin, water board road to Glen Lyon, Ben Lawers road, Fearnan, Dull and Weem.

see http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/279414331

Exact meeting time/location will be confirmed closer to the time. The start time will be ready to ride – so no faffing or waiting around for people to arrive.

Please get in touch  if you want to join us. Unless the weather looks really bad the ride will happen. Cheers Gerry

Big Annual Lakes Trip?

Last October we did a big trip down to the lakes staying in the YHA in Keswick. It was a top weekend with great trails a brilliant weather. I’ve dug a few pics out of the WordPress media library. It would be great to do something similar this year. October is a good time to go, as the Lakes are slightly quieter and there is a chance of decent weather* before winter sets in. There is loads of varied riding in the Lakes so there will be options to suit all abilities and tastes. It’s actually usually even quicker to drive to the Lakes than Fort William which is a bonus.
