Torridon Weekend – Update

Hi,

I’ve added some more details for the Torridon weekend in May for those that are going. For anyone feeling like they’ve missed out, it would be great if you can make it. The Youth Hostel is fully booked but there is camping / B&Bs / hotel locally.

PS If anyone know that any of the suggested routes are bonkers / cursed / awful please post up!

New Facility: using club funds to place deposits.

At the 2012 AGM, the committee proposed that a facility be created that would permit members to borrow club funds to place deposits and make up-front payments for trips, events and social activities in order to allow club members to organise events without being out of pocket.

This remains the case, and the committee are keen to encourage all members to arrange events and trips.  We would however like to make everyone clear on the procedure for using club funds in this way.  See Club Funding of Trip Deposits for outline of how this might work.

If anyone is thinking of organising a trip and would like to use club funds in this way, please drop one of the committee (preferably me) an email.

This is a work in progress and any feedback would be most welcome.

Lakes trip last weekend

Me, Sanny and Kev headed down to The Lakes for a cracking day of riding. Note to self – when Sanny says wee hill he means anything less than 1000 feet.

6 1/2 hours in the saddle, 4500 feet of climbing and 25 miles of fun on a pretty much dryish and sunny day. Most of The Borrowdale Bash with extra gnarl was the choice for the day, much recommended.

Here’s a wee film, enjoy –

Mugdock MTB Orienteering Event: Sat. 20th April

As mentioned at the AGM, we’re pleased to announce that GMBC are hosting the 2nd round of the Scottish Mountain Bike Orienteering Spring League, sponsored by Alpine Bikes, on Saturday 20th April at Mugdock Country Park.

If you are unfamiliar with MTB orienteering (called Trailquest in the past) then the objective is to visit as many of the 30 checkpoints as possible within the 3 hour time limit.  The event is within a defined area and a map and list of checkpoints will be provided on the day.  It’s up to you which route you ride so you take in as many checkpoints before your 3 hours is up.

The event is open to adults and children over the age of 15 (or over the age of 12 as part of a generations team).  You can enter as a solo or a pair.  There will be a fantastic selection of prizes & spot prizes for competitors.  The event is now available to enter via this BMBO page.

Prices to enter the event are as follows: Continue reading

Skills course – Thursday 25th April – 1 place left

Hi folks,

myself and my riding buddy Robin have booked a day with the bearded legend, Ed Oxley, on Thursday 25th of April. There is one space left if anyone else fancies it. The course is called ‘jumping for dads’ and is self explanatory, taking place at Gisburn forest in Lancashire. Not sure whether we’ll be staying over the night before, or heading off super early, but there would be space in the car, and we’d be heading through Glasgow from the shire. It’s £80, post up if anyone fancies it.

cheers, Greg.
