Ben Lomond

Top ride tonight on Ben Lomond. Six of us made the trek up in warm and humid conditions. After much perspiration it was time to turn around and fly back down again. Really great conditions, yesterday’s showers had damped the dust down and the sun was out. There was even time for a quick pub stop at the end. Thanks to Chris, Graham, Graham, Elizabeth & Gareth.

Get Out and Ride

Despite the dismal forecast tonight turned out to be another dry ride on fast and fun trails. It was a nice change to have some dramatic clouds over the Campsies rather than the plain blue sky. Hope to see a few more folk out next week, or up Ben Lomond tomorrow weather permitting.

GMBC Summer BBQ – Reminder

Oct1Daily.

The summer BBQ is fast approaching. All club members, their partners and children all welcome to come along for some burgers, chat and midges sunshine. Please post up here, on fb or email if you are coming along to help me get the right supplies in. I’ll sort out burgers and some other goodies but it would be great if folk could bring some of their own creations to share as well.

See you next week! Anyone want to organise a pre-bbq ride?

Arran Weekender – 7th / 8th September

Hi,

There has been some chat about organising a weekend trip to Arran this year. For those of you who haven’t been mountain biking on Arran are a lot of great trails to suit all tastes. The Arran bike club (http://www.arranbikeclub.com) have done a great job linking up trails and putting routes on their website.

The rough plan would be travel over on Friday night (ferries are at 1515, 1800 and 2030, or 0700 Sat morning), avoiding taking the cars if at all possible. Ideally we would get some sort of hostel type accomodation near Brodick. On the Saturday we could aim for a big ride like this:

On the Sunday we could do one of the short but still brilliant rides like this:

There are a number of other routes and variations possible if anyone fancies something different.

If you are interested in coming post up here and I’ll look into accommodation next week. I’d like to book something by the end of next week once I get an idea of numbers.

Torridon Weekend – Update

Hi,

I’ve added some more details for the Torridon weekend in May for those that are going. For anyone feeling like they’ve missed out, it would be great if you can make it. The Youth Hostel is fully booked but there is camping / B&Bs / hotel locally.

PS If anyone know that any of the suggested routes are bonkers / cursed / awful please post up!

Lakes This Weekend – Plans for Anyone Wanting to Ride Saturday

Hi,

Me, Gav, Ross, Greg + his ‘shire crew are heading down to the Lakes this weekend. When I advertised this last month a few folk said they’s be interested in riding on the Saturday. The plan is to meet up in Patterdale at 9.30am on Saturday, so hopefully see a few folk there.

We’ll need to see what the weather is like, but there are a number of high and low level rides around Ullswater to suit all enventualities.

Arran

Despite predictions of high winds and snow a few of us headed over to Arran today. Obviously no one had told the menagerie of roadies, golfers, drinkers and old-ladies-seeking-tea-shops as the ferry was as busy as ever. We had decided to try and ride the loop up Goat Fell, which as the freezing level was around 300m seemed ambitious. After a short spin on the road to Corrie, a steep section of tarmac gave way to top quality hike-a-bike. It was a steep but interesting  walk up, with great views over the sea and a mountain burn tumbling down rock slabs beside the path. We found snow around 500m, but it was fresh and grippy. The further we ascended the wind increased and by the time we reached our destination it was a bit of a blizzard. Continue reading
