GMBC Yoga/Pilates and Circuits Classes – Wed Winter Nights

At the last committee meeting, we discussed the possibility of using the hall on Wednesday nights for Yoga/Pilates Classes and Fitness Circuit Classes on alternate weeks over the winter. The intention is for the class to be ~8-9:30pm leaving some time to have a cup of tea with anyone out night riding. The aim would be to get a proper yoga/pilates teacher and concentrate on core work and stretches more beneficial for cyclists. The fitness circuits classes would be run by ourselves. The yoga/pilates class would be a maximum of £4 per person per class. Depending on numbers and exact figures there might be a case that the club could subsidise this, however, this needs to be confirmed. At this stage, I would like to establish how many people would be interested in taking part in yoga/pilates and circuits classes. Please let me know ASAP so as I can try and get things sorted.

Saturday pub ride

Hi all.
Back by popular demand.  The second social “Saturday pub run” of the year.
The date selected, so put in your diaries now, is the 10th of September and that will be 2011.  As it is in September the weather may throw a wobbly.  So this trip will be even more weather dependant than the last one.  In other words if it’s pouring it will be cancelled.
The distance clocked on the last one was 26 miles, not including the single track at the start, so there is a bit of cycling involved.  It’s not all chatting and drinking.
I am looking at adding, at least, one more pub on this one so the stops would be.  Carbeth Inn, Blane Valley Inn, Glazert Hotel,(or Swan Inn) Kinkaid House Hotel, The Stables, Weatsheaf Inn and finally finishing off in Milngavie at Cyan.
Bear in mind the usual stuff about Pubs sell more than just beer.  You can have soft drinks, tea, coffee etc.  (On the last trip we did find it hard to get a scone for Phil so scones are off unless you bring your own.)  We will set off at 10 am.
You are welcome to join for as little, or as much, of the trip as you wish depending on the time you have available.
This social event is about having fun, a lot of laughs, good food, camaraderie and a bit of cycling thrown in for good measure.
Make sure, if you are doing the whole thing, that you have planned to be out most of the day as time flies when you are having fun.
All the best.
Groundskeeper John

ANY I.T PEOPLE OUT THERE??

Not sure if this is applicable to anyone at the club. I am looking for an I.T person to help to design and install a network for our design studio and print room. We would also be looking for advice and installation of a storage and back-up system.

If this is something that you would be able to do or know of anyone please drop me an email to bradley@pushprint.net

I say help but this would obviously be paid work!!

Navigation skills course

The night provided an excellent grounding in basic essential navigation for those either previously untutored or, like me, whose previous training was buried in the mists of time and have become far too rusty thanks to a handy GPS unit.  Map setting, translating between your environment and the map, taking and following bearings, and how to get yourself unlost were all covered, with the aid of medium sized objects, a few blankets, some string, and a small monkey.  An excellent introduction to essential skills, and hopefully more members can take take advantage of future club-subsidised theory and practical sessions.

Tools found on WHW

No, not folk trying to ride the Westie in a day ;~) :

I found a wee pouch with tools today sitting at the bottom of Craigallian wood, where the steep downhills are, on the west highland way. If you can describe the pouch you can get your tools back!

Leave a comment if it’s yours and I’ll put you in touch.

Ben Nevis 70km Loop

Just returned from a fantastic weekend riding in and around Fort William. Based on my post last week and after bumping into Chris Johnstone at Wheelcraft on Saturday the route was changed slightly to become a 70km classic loop of Ben Nevis. Alison, Superlight Euan and myself left the Braveheart car park in Glen Nevis on Sunday morning. We then rode the Westie to above Kinlochleven where we then kept the height gained and picked up the trail past Mamore Lodge to Luibeilt passing Loch Eilde Mor and Beag. When reaching Luibelt we decided to cross the river after Superlight Euan proudly informed us he made 58 glacier river crossings during a day ski mountaineering in NZ, so surely we would manage one in July. After plenty of hikey bikey and some fantastic scenery we reached the bothy at the start of the Lairig Leacach, a welcome stop after being in the wilderness for so long. After refuelling, we then descended the landrover track to Leanachan Forest where we traced some of the Witch’s Trails towards Torlundy, and then back along the cycle lane to Glen Nevis. A fantastic trip and one that should become a club classic.

10@Kirroughtree

Back from a fantastic weekend of racing at Kirroughtree. Weather held up and raced in the sunshine for the first time this year. New course again with some great decents. Our team were in line for a podium position until my other team members decided they were too knackered to do any more laps. Oh well, there’s always next year….. Try it if you haven’t already. D

Anyone riding tomorrow night?

Just like the heading says! I plan to head out at 7.45. Forecast is good. Anyone else planning on a spin?

On a different note, Shearer and I headed up onto Beinn a Ghlo group of munros near Blair Atholl on Sunday. After an initial hikey bike up to the saddle, we were rewarded with some mighty fine plateau riding and a couple of terrific descents. The final one of Carn Liath is a loose, steep and rocky stunner. The mountains have been on my to do list for a while and they definitely lived up to expectations.

Next up on the must do list are Ben Lawyers and the Inverar horseshoe – the latter being 4 summits on a big plateau. Ross and I walked it on a perfect winter’s day a couple of years back and the final descent would be amazing on the bike.

Cheers

Sanny
