Riding in the Bush… A Short (as I could!) Ride Report from NZ

So, as a few people have been asking about our trip to NZ, and more importantly the riding, so here is a wee ride report, with plenty or photos.

Ride 1: Rotorua

Trails: Whakarewarewa forest (also known as The Redwoods)www.riderotorua.com/

The trail network is one of the oldest in NZ, and with 130km network of trails, and we could- and possibly should- have spent more than one day here. The trials are all man-made but nothing like our trail centres as you are riding on a combination of loose, dusty forest floor, with some fire roads cutting between them.

Tuesday Ride Report

So, we had the first Tuesday night ride out of the new hall last night. I wondered how many riders we’d get after the heavy afternoon rain so congratulations to the 4 hardy riders that turned up for a scoot around the trails in the dark (Graeme B, Fraser, Helen and  Costa Del Graeme).  Special mention goes to Fraser and Helen whose first night rides it was too!  We stayed on the fairly hard surfaced stuff for the ride but there were some huge puddles and soaked feet by the time we got back to the hall but there seemed to be smiles all round too!

Tuesday Ride

Hi.  Forecast looks wet for tomorrow but I’m going to head up anyway (ever the optimist).  Anyone else coming along?  We have a new rider who is planning on joining us.  If you have a spare set of lights then please email me or post up here.  Thanks.  7pm at the new hall if you’re coming along.

GMBC date night: The Armstrong Lie

As per Graham’s post a few days ago ‘The Armstrong Lie’ is on at the GFT.  I asked Becky if she wanted to go and see a film – she was delighted at the prospect of a romantic night out.  A rom-com? No. A serious meditation on love? Nah.  A straight to video channel 5 Friday night special  circa 1995? Not even that.  A film about cycling.  Cue much disappointment – apparently not a suitable date night film…

So I’m now sans partner for Friday the 31st of Januray at 8.10.  Anyone want to be my hot date(s)?  Don’t worry, I’m not picky and multiple partners are fine.

Balmaha Baggage

Lorna is driving up to Balmaha on Saturday and has agreed to take the bags up with her and bring them back on Sunday, probably dropping them off at the new hall for collection when you get back to Milngavie. Its only a saloon car so if you could keep bags as small as possible (No big rucksacks please) then hopefully we can fit them all in. She also has to be away by 10.15am at the latest so try and be there early, Thank You.

An Epic Week For GMBC

A lot of you will have been involved in some or all of the major events that took place at the club this week.  Thanks to everyone for taking part and making it a great week.  Here’s some links to the photos from the week.

3 More Bunkhouse Spaces For Balmaha

Hi Folks – we had filled the bunkhouse but following some reoom re-planning we have freed up 3 spaces in the bunkhouse.  As space is now at a premium priority for these spaces will go to members who have paid their membership fees for 2014.  If, however, you haven’t paid up for 2014 I can add you to a waiting list in the interests of filling the dorm and the general principle of “the-more-the-merrier”. So, if you’re interested get your name down sharpish!

The price for a dorm room will be £15 which includes a pretty darned good breakfast on the Sunday.  You can either email me your interest (infoATgmbcDOTorgDOTuk) or, ideally, add it on to the original post so we have it all in one place, here:
