Topper Wed night ride

…..And so it was that four hardy souls braved the elements (ok, it was a touch chilly) and headed out into the inky darkness of Mugdock. Pistol Pete, Tom “trainer wheels” Downie, Genius McConcept and I headed out via Dougalston on some fairly hard frozen trails. Carefully avoiding the dumpling in a BMW in Virgin Active who appeared keen to reverse into us, we opted for a fast blast round the trails above the reservoir before heading across to the rocky rooty and out to Carbeth. As we headed out towards Craigallion, the snow started to appear on the trails and made for terrific riding – grippy and fast. Pete took us through Carbeth for a play on what’s left of the new trails before taking us down a cracking singletrack descent to the Carbeth Inn that I’d not ridden before. Genius opted for the early bath while the three amigos headed back along the Westie and in via the riverbank and golf club trails. Despite the disadvantage of riding on 26er wheels ( trainer wheels / kiddies bike / delete as appropriate), Tom commented that it was one of the nicest evening rides he’d done in a while with zero faff and a reasonable pace to ensure that no one got cold.

All in, it was a really nice night to be out with the trails in near perfect condition. So where was everyone else?

Want Good, Cheap Lights? Check Out These…

There was some interest in my recent lights purchase so I said I’d post up the details. You get a low weight light, enough lumens to comfortably see off road (the spot is a bit narrow but fine for helmet mounting). With just a little toggling between modes I was getting a 4 hour burn time. Price? £23. No, that’s not a typo! See link below.

Hall tonight/next few days.

Just a quick heads up for anyone using the hall tonight:

The hall boiler is on the blink. If heat is needed, there are electric fan heaters and the switchs for these are in the porch. The four on the right are the ones you need. They need switched off on exit too.

I’ll post up when the situation is resolved – hopefully soon seeing as the weather is perma-baltic these days.

Update from Dawn:

Hi all,

Just wanted to confirm meeting times for the 19th January.

You will need to be at Bullands Coffee Shop no later than 10:20am on  Saturday morning. The taxi will be arriving at 1030am to pick up the luggage. He is expecting to pick up approximately 20 odd bags so I’ve put in a request for an Estate car. If you’re no there for 1030am then you’ll be pedaling yer own luggage to Balmaha and over Conic Hill, so best no be late 🙂  The luggage will be taken into the Oak Tree and they will stow it in a safe place for collection when we arrive nice n muddy later on. for sale shortly – Thule roof bars and footpack

Posting up here to see if anyone may be interested.  New company car end of Feb means I need new roof bar setup, so my existing ones will be surplus.  Keen to sell, but not wanting to ship, so local sale would be ideal.  They are Thule aerobars and Thule 757 footpack – this fits most estate cars with roof rails, but not the newer breed with flush railings.  Let me know if interested – will be available end Feb.  New cost is about £140, so looking for £70 – exactly 3 yrs old, work perfectly, supplied with original keys.

Thanks
