Aviemore Weekend Away – Trip Report

With the weather improving during the week this weekend away was being hotly anticipated by all 23 people signed up for it.  And it didn’t disappoint!!  There was bucketloads of gorgeous sunny weather, fantastic trails to explore and a lot of laughs and good club spirit.  Thanks to everyone who came along and made it what it was.  And thanks to the organizers (Sam, Ryszard & Dawn), chefs (Ross, Paivi, Simon & Dave), washer-uppers (everyone else) and brownie slicer extraordinaire (Rueben).

Next Navigation Skills Classes

Hi Folks,

After a successful and informative navigation skills course back in July we’re aiming to run more classes.  Depending on the level of interest there will be 2 theory classes and 1 practical session (on foot, probably in the Trossachs) on offer.  To ensure we have the best chance of running the classes I will open this up to non-GMBC members subscribed to the Yahoo mailing list on the condition that paid GMBC members have priority and non-paid up members pay the full price (£20 per course).  Dates and details………..

GMBC Christmas Night Out – Sat. 10th Dec

Hi Folks,

Are you upset that the long summer days have gone? Are you sad that you’re noticing the warm horizontal rain has been replaced cold horizontal rain? Well, that must mean we’re now into Scotland’s 2nd season – Winter. (The other one being “June”). But cheer up! Winter means frozen trails, cold crisp nights and no excuses needed for all you can eat mince pies and mulled wine!

To keep your spirits lifted even higher why not look forward to the GMBC Christmas Night Out? Here’s the details:

  • When: Saturday, 10th December. Time TBC, probably 7pm-ish
  • Where: West Restaurant & Bar, just off Glasgow Green
  • How Much: £24.95 per person for 3 course meal (drinks not included but there’s plenty of great beers to wash it down with at West). West Christmas Dinner Menu.

What Next?

If you’re interested then get your name to me ASAP – by the end of this week so I can get a table reserved. I will require a £10 deposit from you, to be paid immediately and the balance will be required in early December at the latest. Methods of payment: cash or speak to me and we can arrange a bank transfer.

Small print: in confirming your attendance, you agree to pay the requested deposit immediately. In the event of you not being able to attend then you accept you will forfeit your deposit unless another club member can be found to take your place.

Tonight’s Introductory Ride

We had 8 people out tonight for the introductory ride (Tom, Majken, Suzanne, Jack, David, Toronto John, Sandy and myself).  It was good to see that some new riders had come back for more after previous visits!

We headed out along the Westie and up to the top of Rocky Rooty before heading over to Hole In the Wall and up for a loop of the moors and Jacqui’s Root before heading back from Khyber Road and down Snakey.  We had some great views of the Campsies in the warm evening sunshine and kept the pace relaxed to keep the group together.  John (visiting briefly from Toronto) was having a great time despite the improptu tumble onto the road and then the broken rear mech hangar forcing a singlespeeding bodge to get him back (thanks to Jack and Sandy as the pitcrew).   Hopefully he’ll return to Toronto with some good memories of his evening biking with GMBC.

Leaving just after 7pm and getting back pretty much bang on 9:30pm it was into the hall for a cuppa and a chat just as the handful of 7:45pm riders got back.  From the feedback it sounds like everyone had a good time and we’ll hopefully see folks again on future rides.
