As you may, or may not, be aware GMBC was born way back in the mists of time, sometime in 1987 – a time when mountain bikes were purple and Phil “Old Man” Draper was simply Phil Draper. Mountain biking has changed a lot in the last 25 years and the club will have evolved and changed as its members have come and gone. It’s a fantastic achievement that the club is still strong after all this time and it’s a fact worth celebrating.

I’m no meteorologist so I’ll decribe the recent weather as “kinda meh” – not sunny, not cold, not wet – just meh. In search of dry trails we’ve done a few trips to GT in recent weeks and Mabie (originally on the calendar) is having some forestry work done so Drumlanrig seemed like a good choice to escape the local trails and get a trail centre fix yet still enjoy some natural feeling (and hopefully dry) trails. Last weekend saw the return of the Balmaha weekend away which is rapidly becoming a staple of the club calendar. With the focus definitely being on the social aspect of the trip we started as we meant to continue – with a pre-ride getogether at one of the club’s sponsors, Bullands cafe in Milngavie. The link to the calendar seems to have broken (possibly with the move to the new site). Tonight’s ride was down on the calendar as Carron Valley. A few weeks back Gerry suggested a loop of the Old Kilpatricks, just west of Glasgow followed by a bite to eat at a local carvery. The combination of bribery with food and a bike ride convinced 16 of us to head out on a very cold & blustery day. Continue reading
