Volunteer(s) Needed: Local Ride, Saturday 18th Oct

Hi.  We’ve been contacted by a chap from Canada (Colin Bixby) who’s going to be visiting Milngavie (where his mum lived) and he’s keen on getting out on a ride.  I’m looking for someone to host a longer local ride this coming Saturday and to show Colin some of the trails.  I’ve arranged, with Chris from Dales, to get him a bike.  I’m thinking maybe 11am until 3/4pm, maybe up to Lennox Forest or the Whangie, Carbeth, forest trails.

If you’re interested in hosting this ride for Colin (& the rest of the club) then let me know ASAP and I’ll put you in touch with Colin.

Abernethy SMBO Event: Saturday 11th Oct

Hi.  It’s the Abernethy round of the MTB orienteering series this coming Saturday.  If you’ve not done one of these before it’s a great 3 hours out on the bike and as competitive as you want to make it.  Basically you’re given a map and checkpoints and have 3 hours to get around as many of them as possible.  Map reading skills help, as does a degree of fitness – and if you have neither it doesn’t matter.

So, who’s up for it?  So far the following folks have either signed up or are interested in doing it:  Thomas Wylie, Ryszard, Mario, Katie, Angus, maybe Aileen and myself.  If you want to do it then decide quickly because the online entry closes on the 9th of October.  It may be possible to sign up on the day but to be sure get it booked ASAP online.

You can sign up at Entry Central and read more about it on the BMBO page.  If you’re going then either post up here or shout up on FB to arrange logistics.

Saturday Cross Bike Ride

Hi.  I’m planning a cross bike ride this Saturday.  Starting from Balloch and making its way back into Milngavie over about 20/25 miles.  It’ll be a sociable pace, i.e. plenty of chat, riding at a pace to suit the group with at least 1 stop along the way and maybe a post-ride late lunch.  The ride is also suitable for mountain bikes.  There’s a few miles of quiet country road to start with but after that it’s mainly gravel track with a small bit of muddy field.  Details of the ride and logistics are in the calendar, here:

The weather looks showery so pack appropriate clothing and bear in mind you may cool down when we stop.  I managed to talk some folks from the Wednesday Intro ride into coming along so post up if you’re interested and I’ll keep an eye out for you in Balloch.

Aberfoyle Sunday Ride

Hi.  I’m planning on heading up to Aberfoyle for a ride tomorrow afternoon.  12:30 start from the main car park.  Weather-wise probably expecting some light rain and damp trails.  Details (such as they are) can be found here:

If you’re going then either post up here, text me or email me at:

Weekend Rides: Glentress & Selkirk

If you want to join the weekend away trip for one of the days I thought I’d post up the plans.  NB: we also still have x1 space in the hostel if you want to stay over on the Saturday night.  If you’re interested in either the hostel space or joining the ride then post up on the website or email grahamDOTandertonATgmbcDOTorgDOTuk

Saturday:

Meeting in Glentress for a play about (assuming the enduro event leaves some trails free).  Some folks arriving about 10am, some a bit later.  If you’re coming let us/me know and we’ll arrange to meet you.

Sunday:

Sunday’s ride will start from Selkirk, aiming for 09:30 start and doing a route with multiple loops near the Selkirk area so there are bail out options if needed.  The full route I had in mind is about 65km and about 7000ft of climbing!!  Don’t worry, the bail outs are there for a reason 🙂  It’s a really varied mix of trails but I’d say it was for the intermediate rider who is comfortable on red trails with the occasional piece of black-grade trail.  There’s a cafe stop after either 25 or 45km but take food anyway.  Meet point TBC but probably the main public car park in Selkirk behind the town square.  Again, email if you’re interested.
