Help Promote GMBC at the Scottish Bike Show – 14th & 15th April

Once again, Alpine Bikes will be giving GMBC some floor space at the Scottish Bike Show (14th &15th April 2012). Last year some of us turned out to promote the club and we are intending to do the same again this year. Myself and Barry will be at the stall on the Saturday . However, we would appreciate some more help. We are both riding the Sportive on the Sunday (as per Tim’s earlier post) and if anyone else can help that would be great. We are  hoping to obtain 4 free passes for those helping out, these can be transferred between us. Please get in touch if you can help us out.

Help – frame/bike

Just loving riding the hardtail after years of full suss,  but it’s just too small for me………..

Option 1. Looking for larger frame size on a tight budget so anyone out there with a 20 to 21 inch frame for sale or possibly swap with my Kona Blast 19″ (V brake – not disc. Sounds big but it’s really 16″ to the top tube with 3″ continuing to the seat).  Preferably disc compatible please.

Option 2. Go up to a 29 hardtail !  Any advise or second hand stuff out there?

Cheers all

Simon

I am thinking of riding “the bunter” so 14-15mph seems a good pace to aim for. Back milngavie 3.30 latest.

Kilbo Path and Jocks Road – biking the munros

Riding in Scotland means that you either accept whatever the weather throws at you or you become an amateur meteorologist, MWIS being your go to reference and are ready to chase the sun even if it means a loooong drive for a day ride. Having mates who are happy to do the same at the drop of a hat (or SMS text as seems to be what da kidz are doing these days) helps as does a willingness to shoulder bikes for an hour or two in the on-going quest to find the best trails. With a promising weather forecast for the north east of the country, Marky Mark and I found ourselves leaving Glasgow at an altogether ungodly hour on Sunday heading for Glen Clova north of Dundee. Meeting up with Shearer at 10 sharp (GCMB riders in on time shocker!) at the head of the Glen, the sun was out and the skies were blue. Things were looking good. Continue reading

Hi folks – New member!

Hi, I’ve just joined GMBC, as my own club is more focused on road riding, So I need to branch out a wee bit!. I met a fair few of you at the weekend we had at Mabie last november, I was there due to knowing Gareth and Elaine.

Hope to get out on some club rides soon,

Greg.

Your favourite rides within ~1 hour of Glasgow?

I’ve got a friend visting at Easter who has never biked in Scotland (but is a good rider) so I’m trying to plan a few rides to show the best of what’s on offer. So I’d really like your suggestions for your favourite / most memorable routes near-ish to Glasgow (say ~1hr drive away). The routes can be anything from a few hours to longer, but not 12 hour hike-a-bike epics. Good “natural” riding rather than trail centres is preferable.

Suggestions last night were:

  • Something round Mugdock because it’s local
  • Ben Lomond, good idea but could be a rambler dodging festival at Easter
  • Something around Aberfoyle (routes needed)
  • Ochil hills
  • Drumlanrig

I have seen a route guide from Tyndrum to Taynuilt that looks good, about 60km via Loch Etive I think. Anyone done this?

Thanks

Tom

Website hacked!

The website was hacked some time Monday PM.  If at any time on Monday or Tuesday you tried to access the site and were redirected to a site purporting to scan your computer and warn you that it was infected, you should immediately ensure that you have valid and up-to-date anti-virus software installed (such as free AVG).  This is especially important if you downloaded anything from the redirection site.

We weren’t being singled-out for special treatment – around 300,000 sites were compromised in the same way.

Scottish Mountain Bike Orienteering

I’ve just added the dates for the SMBO events to our shiny new calendar. There’s one a month until October.

Does anyone fancy giving one of these a shot as part of a team? I’d be looking for a fun day out, rather than troubling the podium. First one I think I could feasible do is Glentress on 15 April.
