Old Kilpatricks Carvery Ride on 21st January

Planning a Saturday ride in the Old Kilpatricks on 21st January. A few folk have already expressed an interest (Alison, Sam & John and Elizabeth). The plan is to meet at the Bowling Lock car park and be ready to ride at 10am (not at the big house as I suggested in a previous post). If you are travelling by train then there is a station at Old Kilpatrick which is handy. Also, Bowling Locks is connected to Glasgow, Balloch, Erskine Bridge via cycle tracks. It is not a hugely technical ride, but a few interesting optional offshoots at the top for anyone interested. There is a big climb, but perfectly do-able for anyone who is keen enough. Any faster climbers can repeat parts of the climb so we are never too far apart. The route is a loop which is always good and there is an optional post-ride refuel at the Crown Carvery/Pub. Please let me know if you are interested.

Another stolen bike

Hi folks

Seems to be a lot of bike theft going on.  My friend asked if I could post this, as he’s lost a really lovely bike and was hoping folk might keep an eye out for it (see below for description).

I was also wondering if anyone marks their bikes (like with a police regisration scheme or pens or electronic tags that go in your frame).  I just know know if any of it is worth doing. Any thoughts?   Continue reading

Glentress on Sunday anyone?

Given that the weather has played havoc with so many forests and paths I’m planning a trip to the relative clear and well drained centre that is Glentress on Sunday. I’m heading down ready to ride for about 10.30 am. Do holler if you fancy it, the more the merrier. Probably riding a mixture of trails dependant on conditions etc. Meet you in the new caff.

cheers

FS: Tough rear wheel – Mavic 321CD (now 729) on gold hope xc hub

Going for a lighter wheel as I am changing bike to be a bit more xc friendly. I have a really tough rear wheel in excellent condition to part with – built by the legend, Big Al at wheelcraft and has been true ever since it was built. Rim is the Mavic 321CD (now called 729), the ‘CD’ coating is dark grey and very resistant to scrapes. Built with 36 plain gauge spokes, brass nipples of course and uses a Hope XC hub in bling gold colour. The hub has had some fresh bearings last year by alpine and not used much since then. Freehub has been oiled and cleaned regularly. If you are tough on wheels, then this is all you need – it is the strongest rim you can get built up and is in great condition, its heavy compared to a 717 for instance, but will last a downhill course or big jumps. Cost me about £180 or so a while ago, would accept £60 or £65 with 8 speed cassette included (still loads of life left).

Help! How do I link our WP pages to FB?

I have upgraded our facebook page, as its been yelling at me to do this or loose it and as Iain righlty said, it would be good to keep this active and up to date.

I know there is a way for wordpress to automatically upload content to facebook, but after searching the wordpress site, I am now stuck. It tells me to login to WP and open “plugins”then install the link thingy may boaby- but cannae find this.

Does anyone else done this? Can do this?

This’ll mean that our content on FB is kept current without us having to add to multiple pages, and we may also generate content the other way too. Not sure how though.

Waht with all the crap weather, I thought I’d try some techncal computer stuff, but its failed me at the first hurdle, or should i say the first hill-climb. No change there i hear you cry!
