Opportunity For Club Members

Quick note to all 2014 club members – we’re working on a promo video with a local TV channel.  Log into the website to see details but we’re needing riders to appear on camera, ideally you’ll have been involved in some club rides, weekends away or events and be keen to share your experiences of what it’s like to be part of the best mountain bike club in Glasgow.  If you’re interested then either add a comment to the original post or drop me an email.  Thanks.

Summer social ride 31st May

Saturday May 31st has been proposed for the summer social pub ride. Usual schedule of 10am depart from the clubhouse heading out the WHW to Carbeth, then Blanefield, lennoxtown, Kirkintilloch, Torrance and back to Milngavie around 7pm. The emphasis as always is on the social side and is a great way to meet members of the club and enjoy food and drink (alcoholic or otherwise) throughout the day. The ride is approx 26 miles off road in a loop making it easy to join or leave at whatever time suits. It’s been very popular in past years with numbers around 15-20 over the day and with the sunshine that we’ll have this year (always the optimist) I’m sure we’ll get a tan along the way. I’ll post up nearer the time but pencil the date in on your diary.

GMBC Promo Video – Volunteers Sought

Being part of the best mountain bike club in Glasgow has its perks!  We’ve been asked if we’d like to do a wee promo video about the club.  So I’m looking for volunteers to appear in front of camera to talk about what it’s like being part of the club and some of the things we get up to.  It’ll be quite informal and it will be filmed outdoors and include us riding bikes.  It will be used as part of showcasing a Commonwealth sport to a Glasgow (and possibly wider) audience.

The filming dates/times are still TBC but I’m suggesting a midweek evening to them.  It’ll be done at Cathkin Braes.  It would be great to get a cross-section of club members (long time members, new members, expert riders, novice riders, men and women).  I’m especially keen on getting new members/novice riders involved.

It’s a great opportunity to show how passionate you are about our sport and the club so if you’re interested then post up here or send me an email.

Posting sensitive date – here & on the FB page

Folks, we have 323 members in our club FB page (which is fantastic). We have new members contacting us and asking to join the page on a daily basis.  Unfortunately, that does come with some risk.  Especially here on the club website, where the pages are open to the general public.

The reason for this post is to ask you all of being extremely diligent when posting sensitive data i.e. Strava routes starting from your home/works address, personal locations, essentially any info relating to the whereabouts of your bike(s).

This is just a informative warning rather than you all being informed on the back of an incident. The administrators for the page are all long term club members/committee members. Whilst we vet the applications on a regular basis, the odd one may slip through. We have had an influx of undesirables recently, which we’ve carefully rejected. My own gut feeling tells me that they ain’t here to find out ideas for new trails, rather to establish the location of your prized possessions.

We have had a few members recently lose their bike to theft. Not directly linked to the FB page, we just want you all to be mindful.

Best regards

The committee.

New Frame for Daughter’s Bike

During a recent trip to Aviemore I came to the conclusion that my daughter’s bike is too small. (Only seems like yesterday that I bought it.)
While I might go down the route of a totally new bike, I have a hardtail in the garage which has much better transmission, wheels and fork than I am likely to get within our budget. The possibility of transferring the serviceable kit from the hardtail to a new small frame to make a lightish bike appeals.
So, has anybody any thoughts on a frame that would be suitable. Probably looking at a 15” / xs 26” wheel frame. Budget up to around £150 – £200.
Had a quick look on On-One but not sure my wife would be keen on my daughter riding around on an In Bred 😯 , while the Scandal seems to have been discontinued.
Of course if our excellent sponsor Dales had anything suitable then that would be great 😉
